Gunnar Henderson 2022

Just Regular

I'm really curious if he has the ability to stick at SS defensively. He seems to have cut down on his errors from last year, but not sure about his range. Not that there's anything wrong if he's "just" a good defensive 3b

He'll be able to add alot more weight and power if he moves to 3B. At SS he'll be required to stay wiry.

Btw, Gunnar is really going to shoot up the prospect charts if he can keep this up.  He is rolling.

There is no doubt he's been one of the most, if not the most impressive of all the top prospects this year so far. I'm really impressed with his plate discipline and his PAs.

That's my point.  Not only has he physically matured, but his hitting approach has matured as well.  It's been undercover for a few weeks as a 'slow start', but it's starting to hit the bottom-line stats.  With the IF issues in Baltimore, I would love to see him fast-tracked and in Baltimore before the end of August (would love to see it by AS break).  But in Baltimore he would be locked into 3B for the rest of the season, and I think they want him getting fairly consistent SS reps.

Gunnar's LH bat >>> Odor's LH bat today.

I thought there was an outside chance we saw Westburg in Baltimore this year, but that's looking less likely given his recent cold spell. Unless Westburg starts hitting again soon, we may see Henderson before we see Westburg despite the age difference. All that said, I still don't think we see Henderson this year though I wish we would. I think best case, we see him May/June in 2023.

But if it were up to me and he's still hitting well in a couple weeks, I'd have him in AAA and if he makes that transition without really skipping a beat I don't see why he couldn't be up in August...still, I don't see it happening.

If the O's are not contenders in the 2nd half (and contending is very unlikely) then Henderson will not be in Baltimore this year.   There will be a roster crunch this off season and Henderson does not have to be protected until after the 2023 season.

Henderson is improving both offensively and defensively but he as a ways to go and as we see with Westburg,  cold spell can make advancement slow down.

Must not post about him...outplaying Anthony Volpe....jinx....Yankee hype.

Shoot...I did.

I do hope his tricep is in good order in late February 2023.

Of Henderson/Anakin and Westburg/Obi-Wan, now feels maybe like the beginning of Revenge of the Sith when Anakin is all like "my powers have doubled since then" and now he can defeat Dooku alone when at the end of the previous movie one action sequence ago Dooku handled them both easily.

I’m thrilled with how Henderson is doing.  It’s still less than a month and too soon to be speculating about when he’ll be ready for the majors.  I do think that if he’s hitting like this at the halfway point, a promotion to Norfolk will be warranted.  But the halfway point is 7+ weeks away.

Good point. Following these guys daily and weekly can be a roller coaster ride.  One week can turn a bum into a prospect and a prospect into a question mark.
