So bringing McKenna in for defense in the 8th makes a Santander misplay in the fifth go away?

According to Hyde it does.  Maybe the O's should experience with defensive "starters" and then bring in the HR hitters w/ poor defense in the late innings.  That way the O's can pile on runs after the good defense has built a lead.

Most interestingly, he played first today. If he could play first reasonably competently, he is certainly a better option off the bench than Nevin. Not to mention Mountcastle's struggles.

I halfway mentioned this in another thread earlier without knowing he played 1B today.  His OPS is surprisingly good.

Nice catch. I didn't even look at the positions but it's smart. If he can play a passable 1B it helps his value.

If Odor can spell Urias at 3B, Stewart makes more sense on the roster than Nevin if he can play a passable 1B. I haven't seen him do anything too bad and he's good at catching those foul pop ups thanks to his outfield days.

Absolutely. It also would give the Os another lefty OBP oriented bat. Honestly Stewart deserves to be on this roster over Nevin.

Santander is at least average in defense when healthy.

Wow, fans advocating for Stewart to be promoted the the O's.    I just thought Elias was trying to make Stewart more tradable by playing him at 1B.

What does DJ do that Vavra can't?  Vavra can play several positions passably and is a much better hitter w less HR.  I guess he could take Nevin's place, but what does Nevin really do?  Backup 3B.  Hopefully Odor can play a passable 3b and Nevin is not needed.
