If the FO wanted Stowers to face more lefties he would.    This is Fenway. I get why he hit a Aguilar. A three run bomb makes it a 2 run game.

Aguilar is a veteran hitter. Count on him to take a few pitches, then hit a ball solidly through the IF, to the right side if they pitch him outside, for a couple of badly needed runs. A raw rookie like Stowers might be tempted to overswing, aiming for the wall or the RF corner.

What we have in middle relief right now is a huge dumpster fire.. it gets masked over when starters can get us to Tate, Perez and Bautista ..but when starters blowup, we have absolutely nobody that can stop the bleeding.  Huge need for next season is much better middle relief.

The doomsayers expected that the pen would wear down and get exposed.

They lasted a lot longer than I thought they would.

I also don't get why they added Reed.

Inclined to agree.  There's a big delta between the guys you can trust and the guys you can't.  Krehbiel and Reed are guys that aren't that reliable right now.

He will sent down tomorrow. 
 

I would rather see Gallagher instead of Nevin if Vavra can play defense tomorrow. 
 

I bet they regret not sending out Watkins but probably assumed Bradish would  be better.

I'm not so sure about that.  We need to give credit when credit is due, this isn't Syd Thrift's front office.  It feels good to say that our FO is pretty smart, I mean I just cheated The Sun paywall courtesy of @Can_of_cornand read an article about this pitching lab the Orioles have set up.  We're firmly in the 21st century when it comes to how baseball is looked at by a FO.

I don't believe they think that Aguilar is head and shoulders a better option over Stowers in all facets.  I think maybe Hyde liked a matchup better for whatever reason.

      I’m curious to see how Showalter does as he moves up.  From what I can remember he’s got a 92-93 mph fastball with a low release point that he’s adept at putting at the top of the zone to get swings and misses.   It plays in low A.      BTW, Jack Flaherty has one of the best walk:strikeout rates in baseball this season.  8 walks. 72 strikeouts. 54 innings.   Too bad we got a different version.

      I don't think it any coincidence that we're seeing the launch angle increase, walks decrease, and him pulling the ball more. It's quite clear to me that Adley has decided this year he's going add more home runs/power to his game. That has worked (.180 ISO vs .158 last year), but it's come at the cost of his OBP and Runs created per game per 27 outs (5.6 vs 5.9 last year) and he's seeing the least amount pitches per plate appearance (3.92 vs 4.26 last year and 4.21 MLB avg). Seems Adley has put himself in more bad counts this year as well but fouling off or missing meatballs more often, probably do to his upper cut swing that does not stay in the zone much. I'd like to see him cut that down with two strikes and go back to see ball, hit ball to all fields Adley.

      Kjerstad needs to get a fair chance and not sit on the bench for most of the week. They should try to find room for Norby too even with his defensive limitations. I’ve been a Urias supporter, but if Mateo can be a utility infielder then there isn’t much use for Urias on the roster.

      Seems that the Orioles have seen more left-handed pitchers this year and they also have seen that Adley traditionally has hit much better when DHing vs catching. Saying that, McCann has been absolute zero this year and looks like a guy who is in his last year of major league baseball. I'm sure McCann is a good clubhouse guy, but he's not a guy you want to run out there as much as they have been, and I think it's more out of necessity at this point.  Maybe Hyde/Sigbot will let Stowers actually start against a lefty and that would allow Rutschman to C more against lefties?

      It’s partially you, because I certainly don’t see him doing that in almost every single at bat.  But I do see him doing it with some frequency, more so than in prior years.  I think he’s trying (with some success) to increase the launch angle on his swing, and that’s what’s causing the drop to one knee thing as he tries to get a little more under the ball.  His average launch angle has gone from 12.6 to 18.0, and he’s also pulling the ball more (42.5% to 38.4% last year) and hitting to the opposite field far less (20.3% to 28.3% last year).   I don’t think any of that is an accident.
