Prospect Power Rankings 2023

Nice to see Carter Young on the bubble list.  It's wild to see he has had a bunch of multi hit nights over last couple weeks and the average is still super low.  He really started off in some kind of a hole.  I wonder if the shoulder injury and associated rehab work was continuing into last year and last off-season and he is just now getting back to normal.  They must have seen something they liked to give him the money they paid him. Glad he didn't flame out right away.

@Tony-OH We have a nice group of SP off to really good starts. Are these guys that are just getting results with fringey/questionable stuff, or do we actually have more SP talent than we thought?

The bats all have their own thread and pop on the first page of the minors section after a HR, however you have to dig for the SP.

It’s crazy to think, but our SP depth might be underrated.

Who in particular are you referring to? I've been disappointed in Denoyer and Tavera this year overall. Denoyer's velocity has really dropped off and the Orioles don't seem to think he can start with him only get relief innings of late.

Pinto is a junkballer without much of a fastball but his slider, sweeper and change can be good at times so he's intersting.

These "power rankings" are a fun way to track prospects throughout the year. They are not "official" prospect rankings that are completed at the end of the year after a full evaluations. To be eligible for the list, a player must play at least one game on an active roster. Players starting off in extended spring training or in the DSL are not eligible until they play a game in June. The list will be increased to 40 players once the short season clubs start up. (Updated as of 15 May)

Two new players drop into the top 30:

Wandisson Charles: Did the Orioles find themselves a new gem? 98 MPH fastball, sharp slider and occasional split finger. He might not be the mountain but he's throwing strikes looks at least like "The Hill".

Elio Prado: Drops on the scene after controlling the strike zone a bit but really made it due to a lack of performance from others.

Yennier Cano graduated as he is no longer a rookie.

Pretty big drop for Beavers.  Any reason for that other than just his recent performance?   I know Wagner has been hot lately, but overall their numbers aren't too far apart (Beavers, Wagner, and Fabian).

He's got the weakest numbers between him, Wagner and Fabian. Basically I see these three as similar prospects so they will move up and down around each other due to performance.

Excited to see Fabian crack the top-10. I have a soft spot for him give his apparent affinity for the organization. And I have to believe the O's love him since it seems they telegraphed their interest to the whole league.

The trajectory of Fabian/Beavers/Wagner feels meaningful to me. Feels like we got two or three borderline first-round talents there in a way that will be more difficult to reproduce as we pick lower.

On base all five times today and now hitting .276/.373/.402.   Feels like he’s been in our system forever, but he’ll be 21 all season.

We got him in the Cashner trade, one of the first DSL lottery tickets

Carlos Tavera showed off his best command to go along with his 94-96 MPH fastball and plus changeup to move up the charts.

Tough sledding prospect wise right no outside of the top 16 or so. Really need the DSL and FSL to get going to get some real prospects on the second half of the list.

Keegan Gilles needs a promotion to AA. Hasn't even given up a hit this year. Throws around 94 with a cutter, curveball and splitter. 6-8, 255.
