Armbruester had another excellent start yesterday, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and a walk in 5 IP, striking out 7.   He’s carrying a 2.17 ERA and a 1.172 WHIP, with 8.1 K/9.   He’s been very consistent, not allowing more than 2 ER in any start this year.

6 innings 4 hits 3 runs (0 earned).  Only K’d 2 and gave up a homer.  He’s really putting together some nice numbers.  Career MiLB numbers are .209 avg, 1.09 WHIP, and 168 Ks in 155.1 innings.

He’s a big guy too, listed at 6’4” 235 lbs.

He was on the verge of 6 shutout innings when Servideo made an inning-extending error with two outs, one on in the bottom of the 6th.  Then he coughed up a 3-run homer.   Otherwise, sn excellent outing.  He only threw 68 pitches in 6 innings.

Five shutout innings for Armbruester.  He’s made 9 starts this year: four where he allowed no earned runs, three where he allowed one earned run, and two where he allowed two earned runs.  He has a 1.40 ERA in 45 innings.  He really hasn’t had a bad outing all year.

Scouting the stat line, it’s a little hard to see what works for him.  He’s a fly ball pitcher (.54 GO/AO rate) who doesn’t strike out that many guys (7.0 K/9), yet he doesn’t allow many hits (6.80 H/9) or homers (0.80 HR/9).   His BABIP has been very low last year (.246) and this one (.242).    So, it seems like he induces a ton of routine fly balls, yet is keeping the ball in the park.  Pretty unusual profile.

Maybe Tyler Wilson as a comp? Odds of success with that profile are low but he's had enough success to see how it plays at AAA. Great baseball name as well.

He really is a perplexing guy to watch pitch. He keeps getting guys out but gets an amazing amount of atcha balls. He seems to give up a decent amount of loud contact but it seemingly always goes right at a fielder.

I mean, his stat line is pretty impressive overall, but visually scouting him I don't really see why he's been so effective besides throwing strikes (65% strike rate). I'm not sure how sustainable his .242 BABIP is though, but he probably does deserve a chance at AAA.

Just going off of that it doesn't sound like someone whose game would translate to the Majors.

Armbruester makes his AAA debut tonight.  His AA numbers this year: 12 starts, 62.0 IP, 52 H, 21 R, 17 ER, 19 BB, 43 K’s, 2.47 ERA, 1.145 WHIP, 0.7 HR/9, 6.2 K/9, 2.2 K/BB.  His K rate is way down this year (9.0 to 6.2) but his HR rate is too (1.8 to 0.7).
