OPACY cost 110M in 1989.

Adjusted for inflation that is ~270M.

How is more than twice the adjusted cost of construction needed for renovations to a functional structure?

I wish they'd call his bluff.  MLB won't let him turn down 600M.

The Braves and the Rangers got two new mallparks since we got ours. Why do they get way more taxpayer money than us? It's just not fair!  One of these days the Angeloses will finally catch a break.

Love how when they ask the Governor what is going on with the lease and all ,no comment. Always no comment and joint statements with Johnny. It us taxpayer money and the Governor should be looking out for the citizens. Heard little Johnny got upset when the treasurer and two Stadium Authority actually asked how are the lease negotiations going. The audacity of these people to ask questions on National PIe Crust Day.

But the Orioles will get the most public money for any baseball stadium ever besides Yankee Stadium. Braves and Rangers had more private money put in by the team and other entities

600M isn’t good enough. He needs more.

Translation: he wants to steal more money from all of us to give to himself, developers and politicians.

Yup, why be content with being the owner of a championship team when you could be that AND landlord of a Ben & Jerry's?

Everything is adversarial and litigious with that family because everything is based in greed.  They'll do whatever it takes to steal the maximum amount of money possible from the tax payers.  Consider that clown would rather spend money on a propaganda minister and lobbyists than professional baseball players.  I so very much hate all of them.

What is ‘Camden Crossing’? Mysterious survey asks about a Camden Yards revitalization effort

A public opinion poll making the rounds among Marylanders this week is gauging how people feel about a plan to revitalize Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium and the surrounding neighborhoods.

“Camden Crossing,” according to the poll, could complement public-funded upgrades at the two sports parks with additional investment from the Baltimore Orioles into a “public-private partnership.” That investment would aim to create new economic opportunities in the area with housing, hotels, shops, office space and health and education services, the poll says. It asks respondents how familiar they were with the revitalization plan.

Where exactly would Camden Crossing — also the name of a group of townhomes located to the west of the stadium — be located? The poll doesn’t say, and Orioles CEO and managing partner John Angelos declined a request to comment Tuesday about the poll. But a source familiar with the proposal, who asked not to be identified by name because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the potential redevelopment, said the project would likely encompass the existing Camden Yards campus and dozens of acres around the stadium and adjacent to it.

From the Baltimore Sun:

In terms of public funding for MLB venues, the US$600 million for the Orioles marks the second largest investment ever, eclipsed only by what the New York Yankees received from local authorities for the construction of their new Yankee Stadium in 2009.Apr 13, 2022

And it's for renovations of a functional existing structure that the State has paid to upgrade since its opening.

How much will the 600M cost be by the time it is paid off?

    • Eating a couple months of sub-.600 OPS from Chourio in the majors seems to be paying dividends by October. Grayson's too brittle, Adley's too low, Gunnar's too high, Holliday's too rich - an Orioles version of the Chourio "never in MLB" scenario for Basallo might be part of the before Spring Training flush a night like tonight needs.
    • Dues paying member of the Pollyanna Guild here as well.  That said, the O's underperforming young core could do with listening to a few new voices IMO.  Still undecided about Hyde.
    • I mostly agree with you but I'm not prepared to say no one should be fired.  I think we really don't know enough to say that.
    • Biggest problem over the second half was the approach at the plate, poor at bats, and poor situational awareness. HR or bust offenses do not play well in the post season. You have to be able to be able to generate runs by moving guys over, not swinging for the fences when contact is what is called for and so forth. You can’t just start playing that way when the playoffs start it has to part of your DNA as a team before the playoffs start.    This offseason the first thing the Orioles should do is dump Ryan Fuller the current hitting coach and bring in new proven voice to address some of the issues we all have seen in the approach in general of this team at the plate and its poor situational hitting performances. I’m not saying it all the current hitting coaches fault, just saying that it feels  like something is not working and a lot of that centers around the above. Feels like a change may be good for all.  Last but not least, I want to see Hyde be successful but next is one in which he will need the team to make the playoffs and have some form of post season success.  I think it’s that simple. Injuries won’t save him, only success in the post season will. If he can’t produce that then the new owners and Elias will turn elsewhere IMO. I hope Hyde can pull that off and I for one think he can.
    • But then there is the point Rbiggs252 brings up above where he points out he thinks analytics could be part of the problem in that it discounts old school baseball virtues of singles, walks, bunts and hit and runs.  Even if this is a real issue -- especially as something that distinguishes the O's from other successful teams at a similar budget level -- I think it would start in the front office (though maybe extend to coaching too).  Even if the front office doesn't pursue players with these strengths, the coaching staff could try to adopt and train these qualities as in game tactics in certain situations -- but I'm thinking only with the front office's blessing.
    • Add to that there needs to be a serious examination of how they are coaching hitting prospects in the minors seeing prospect after prospect struggle adjusting to MLB pitching. I think it's more than just bad luck and it needs to be addressed so we're not waiting months or even a year for a prospect to start hitting.
