It's part of the reason I don't care for the draft bats and trade the excess for pitchers strategy.

We can always do a redraft for 2020 and grab #4 overall pick Asa Lacy in the Rule 5 today.  Good chance he makes it down to our pick at 29 too.

We can always trade everyone's favorite "cash considerations", to move up.  Or the next favorite "International bonus slot money".

I guess I don’t understand that poorly written post. The Reds #9 and #11 are Jorge and Stafura. 

 

Stafura struck out 23 times in 59 PA in rookie ball with 3 hits in 46 AB.   Long way to go.   They compared him to Volpe before last years draft.

MIL parted ways with SigBot SOP by going scorched earth with their weak IF from 2023.  Hard to blame them to be honest.  Kremer is fine for the marathon tourney-qualifier.  GM's don't (shouldn't) make trades with the PR hit in mind, but that's the angle that I question a Kremer+ most.

What has the greater odds:  Cease and Burnes or Holliday on the OD roster?  Is there a positive correlation between the options?

Sign the massive deal at 26 with the opt-out to give you the ability to get an even bigger yearly salary and more years at their absolute peak (~age 30).   And if they haven't performed, they still have a massive payday to take them into their mid-30s.

The Machado approach will earn the player tens of millions, if not more than any extension followed by FA by 30.

You aren’t going to offer opt outs in these deals unless you are giving them 12-15 year deals.

But if it’s 7-9 years, you don’t do opt outs because you have them locked in for most of the contract anyway.  The only reason you sign them is to get 2 extra years.

You aren’t giving the option of opting out of those years.

The first half of that sounds like he is reporting news, the second half sounds like a guess/prediction. Which was it framed as?

I don't see how we're going to get Dylan Cease if the Sox are asking for 2 pitching prospects and 2 position prospects. 

White Sox righty Dylan Cease has been one of the most oft-discussed names at this week’s Winter Meetings, but Chicago’s asking price on the right-hander remains quite high and — at least to this point — prohibitive. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports that the Sox asked the Reds for pitching prospects Rhett Lowder and Chase Petty in addition to two position-player prospects, for instance. Lowder was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 draft and currently ranks as baseball’s No. 45 prospect at Baseball America. Petty is the former first-rounder the Reds acquired from the Twins in their 2022 Sonny Gray trade.

They fill a need with an experienced and competent closer for 1 season.  Now let's go get 1 of Corbin Burnes or a quality LHP starter such as Jordan Montgomery or Eduardo Rodriguez, and call the meetings a successful week. Blake Snell seems out of reach. I like Tyler Wells but maybe he and Ramon Urias are a good starting point to get Corbin Burnes in a trade. Sweeten it however necessary.

Anything like Hector Neris or Bruce Suter would be icing kn the cake.

I would be absolutely floored if the Os were one of those two teams. I just don’t see them participating in this market.
