Kind of makes sense.  Newsome won't have his tax consideration from Ohtani.

His $680 million paid out in the 10 years after his current 10 year contract.

So what's the projected value of his contract then?  He's assuming we won't be Argentina come 2034, much less 2043.

From what I saw on social media, it looks like the Collective Bargaining Tax implication is in the neighborhood of $40-45 mil per season.

So how much do you need to put into a 20-year bond or a CD ladder scheme now if you owe $68mm in 2043?

I believe the CBA specifies a 5% per annum discount rate.  But we don’t know when after the contract expires Ohtani gets paid.  I doubt it’s all at once.

I guess Andrew Friedman here has found a Dodgers-specific way to bring the hedge fund type stuff in a new way to the game.

The Raysian atomization of run prevention gets kind of a bookend.

For Shohei, I guess if you are using your energy to pitch and hit, maybe you don't care about checking your E-Trade year to year in the Roger Dorn style.

For him too, it is kind of a bookend to pair with the choice to get to play with Mike Trout for less money at a younger age.

We've talked about the odd feeling for Maryland taxpayers, this is something for California taxpayers to digest.
