I don't think you understand how bad an idea that would be.

It would turn out splendidly.  Maybe a little grass would need to be re-turfed, but nothing an expert grounds-crew can't handle. ;)  Guaranteed sell-out!

Have you seen The Saint of Second Chances?   Fantastic documentary about Mike Veeck, the creator of Disco Demolition Night, available on Netflix.  @Tony-OHput me on to it.

Rubenstein has a self effacing sense of humor missing not only from Oriole management in the past...but in all baseball circles. Hey, he dosent have to appear on "Open Mic night at the Improv"...but he provides a  humor, warmth and friendliness from management...I think it's fabulous. The fans are gonna love him..

Yes, it was very well done.

I lived it as a kid of the 70's.  lol  What a glorious time to be a kid!  I like that Rubes doesn't seem to take himself too seriously and has fun with his "toy."  Like Bill Veeck clearly did.

Disco Demolition was a disaster, of course, but I mention it as a joke that maybe was lost on CoC.  Maybe we could do a Free Beer Night too. ;)

I have not seen Saint of Second Chances, but I do, generally, subscribe to the motto, that, "...if it gets you arrested, you've gone too far." hahaha  The trailer looks sensational and as an imperfect dad, I endeavor to watch it by the weekend.  Thanks for the recommendation.  Cheers!

Oh I know all about Disco Demolition night.

Disco's popularity was at its absolute nadir.

It ended horribly.

You do not want to focus Taylor Swift fans ire upon yourself.

I got hit by a Swiftie drive by once and ended up going viral on social media.

You don't want that heat.

I bet it would be so much fun to sit with him and watch a game and talk baseball. Like you said, he seems like a warm and friendly person, but he's also smart and knows his baseball history (and world history too).

One of our friends ran into him at a game. He invite him, his girlfriend, and her two kids up into the owners’ suite to watch the game with him.

He seems like a great dude.

The thing is, all this stuff is cool while the team is playing well and the vibes are good.  But if the team starts to struggle, and it inevitably will at some point, then these sorts of things won't be as well-received.

I think it's fine to do these things now to connect with the fans but I think he would be wise to fade into the background eventually.

I agree with this.  And of course, if the O’s disappoint or remain tight with the purse strings, this goodwill he’s built up won’t last long.

Agreed. I'm glad he's a fun guy, but if he doesn't spend, not much else matters.

Winning does.  The O’s win the World Series and I won’t give a crap if he’s spent.   But if we don’t retain any of our young stars, eventually that will catch up with him.  Not a 2024 issue though.
