From MLB Trade Rumors:

He allowed 12 runs (11 earned) through his first 11 2/3 MLB frames, though he fanned 14 hitters against three walks. Avila’s fastball sat in the 94-95 MPH range, while he also showed a cutter and a knuckle-curve.

The righty spent all of last season working with San Francisco’s top minor league team. He allowed an even three earned runs per nine over 72 frames, striking out 21.3% of batters faced with a solid 46.2% grounder rate.

Those are the key metrics right there that might make him a helpful project.

Yes with all the failures Elias has had the last few years this is a perfectly logical reaction.  Sorry I am guilty of a troll getting to me also.

This is a secondary or more accurately a thirdly or even a fourthly move.  Something he does all of the time.  It means next to nothing. 

Elias loves to do this kind of thing.  And overall......it doesn't matter!   He may hit 1 out of 11 or even 2 out of 20 of these things....which is fine!  It is all reward and no risk.  So whatever.    At the very least it provides depth in the minor leagues. 

Will it make or break the Os?  Hell no.

If you can't tell the difference between me talking about Elias's fascination with other teams high velocity/high spin castoffs who can't stay on the major league club, and real actual major league moves?  Then you haven't been paying attention.

I could give you 5 examples just in the past year.  Just another example of people like you COMPLETELY lying about a post I make.  And don't worry......you aren't alone.  Lots of people do it on here. 

Again.....it doesn't matter.  This move.  Doesn't matter.   But if you want to call me a troll for you thinking I THINK that these types of moves somehow invalidate what Elias has done here overall for the past 5 years?

If this is fresh blood for AAA, great. If they can do something with him and make him into Albert Suarez of 2023 Yennier Cano, great. 
 

But I still want a reliable bullpen piece or two, and this doesn’t move the needle.

But for Future reference, is it “Ah-vee-ah” or “Ah-vill-ah”? I never knew which it is.

He's about 1.5 years younger than Dean Kremer, and got his college start with the same San Joaquin Delta Mustangs, but Kremer was a couple years before him there.

He is the undisputed minor leagues reliever Wins vulture this decade.

      Roy , thanks for showing these stats side by side . I didnt realize just how good Mayo really is . Now I’m going with don’t trade Coby camp . They better get some return if they do

      Good Lord, somewhere I lost track of this thread only to see it derailed into 10 others subjects. 1) Please keep on the subject of Jackson Holliday 2) My thoughts on Jackson Holliday's "Athleticism." First off, Holliday has very good speed, has made some very good plays defensively while on the move, and is playing professional baseball with the best in the world, that in in of itself makes him above average athletically. Now, saying that, he's not an extreme quick twitch guy and he doesn't have that explosive first step you'd typically want in a shortstop. That combined with his below average arm was why I pretty quickly concluded that shortstop would be a stretch for him without additional physical development.  3) The arm woes could very well be from him trying to improve his arm strength this offseason. I don't know what his routine was, but watching him lob balls around the infield tells me he was saving his arm and was kind of treating it with "kid gloves" which suggests he was not 100%. How much that has affected his hitting, I don't know, but his domination by major league pitchers was most likely not because of elbow discomfort. 4) I've said for awhile that Jackson Holliday is untouchable along with Basallo and Mayo, and I still think it would take a ton of a return that would include controllable players before I would consider moving him, but I'm starting to think he might be the guy that could get an impact return that I'd be willing to move.  Now why would I be willing to move him? Quite simply because I would have no issue with an infield of Mayo at 3B and Westburg at 2B. Now, before people overreact here and say I'm down on Holliday, I'm not. I still think he's going to end up a very high OBP hitter with some pop and would look very good on top of this lineup one day. At no point do you give him away and he's certainly not traded for just a rental for this year, but I would listen.

      I agree this is the most questionable part of the Elias MO. Although it is hard to dispute results so far, unless you've already jumped ship following 5 losses.  Personally (as an armchair GM) I would have sold high on Hays, Mullins, Urias, to net some young arms. Borderline Santander and Mountcastle too (though their peak might be now vs. last year). Maybe even Cano after last year! But this is not only hindsight, it also overlooks whatever value chemistry, veteranosity, seniority, continuity, risk mgt., etc. hold in the mysteries of the Sigbot.

      Good point....have an embarrassment of riches in their system. It really is a testament to their scouting and development that they regularly have guys to "give away" when they want a supporting player to help their bench of all things.  So, then, Mateo as the headliner is not as farfetched as it seems for the right team and Dodgers could be the right team for him as well.

      He may have prioritized a multi year solution, but if he also knew that even with those injuries the addition of Burnes would be part of a team sitting at .620 I bet he would have done it anyway.

      Evidence? There's not enough data to support the idea that a six-man rotation does anything more than give an extra day of rest to guys who should pitch more, not less. And I can arguably make the case that a four-man rotation was more successful back in the day AND there were less major arm injuries. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but that just means a lot of you are wrong!
