You can try and spin this season on injuries, and it's a factor. But the total inability to create any kind of momentum even with their healthy players is an utter fail. Gunner didn't get a hit and struck out 4 times in this series..Santander failed too...to get just 1 run in two crucial games is a shameful embarrassment. I think they will not re-sign either Burnes or Santander..but they better get some players who can put the freaking bat on the ball in clutch situations...Also, Im a guy who hasn't ripped Hyde all year, or really ever..but going to the pen at 75 pitches for a pretty good Eflin outing was a panic move...and it tuned out not to matter anyway...1 run in 2 games isn't going to win any series..and we didn't deserve to advance either...just so disappointing and frustrating..a disgraceful series for the Orioles.Theres got to be some soul searching in this offseason, and some players need to to moved...especially Mountcastle..

I cannot believe I'm going to sit here and watch Seth freaking Lugo shut us down in a do or die playoff game.  Put that statement into a thread back in April and you'd be called nuts.

Pitching showed up. Absolutely. The batting was just plain puny. 

I don't think I'll ever get my hopes up for the O's ever again at the beginning of a season and definitely not at playoff time, assuming they somehow get that far.

I think my issue with Hyde nearly all season long has been him waiting until the 8th or 9th for his PH decisions. It was very rare when you'd see him PH in the 5th/6th when the situation required it (i.e. bases juiced, runners on 2nd and 3rd, etc.). If you're going to manage today like a do/die by yanking Eflin so he doesn't see a 3rd time through the order, then you do the same and yank Cowser with the bases juiced, 1 out after Santander just popped out facing a lefty.

You have a bench for a reason. He had: Slater, Rivera, McCann as righties.

If I'm Rubenstein I'm letting Elias know this shit can't happen again or else. His draft picks are flopping as major leaguers and his trades outside of a couple have been horrendous but the biggest one that has to go is Hyde and the coaches and bring some hitters in not just pitchers

I can't think of two baseball games that I have enjoyed less than these two games.   And I have sat through youth games where the pitchers can't throw strikes and the fielders can't field.   These games thoroughly took the air out me.   There was one hit that even made me perk up.  Just a couple turds for baseball games.

In his defense that's not much of a bench -- except maybe Rivera who has hit well lately.  I expected the bullpen to get lit up and it didn't happen.  Weirdly these two games kind of vindicated Elias and Hyde in that the pitching was more than adequate.  But I've never seen an O's offense just die like this.  It's almost like the curse of Mateo's injured elbow or something put a hex on this team.

      If you want to see how young superstars should play, look at Churios and Merrill. Both big time contributors to their teams in the post season, both players 20 and 21 years of age. Meanwhile, our Jackson doesn’t even get an AB. Something is just off with this organization and their development..

      I agree with some of the opening post. I cannot blame Hyde for this team not hitting. I believe it is completely analytical based. Analytics are against singles, walks, hit and run or bunts.    I know we can pick our guy to be upset with but I will go with Tony Taters. Adley hit a single to RF and with the right effort and baserunning he should have been on third base. Don’t have to talk about the terrible AB with the bases loaded. There was another play with the Massey single in the second that rubbed me the wrong way. The ball was hit 73 MPH and landed 250 feet. The RF wall is 325 feet away so how far is he playing back against Michael Massey? Tony did not strike me of a guy giving it everything he had to get to a fly ball. He basically assumed Mullins would get it and jogged in.

      I would have taken this loss harder in the past guess I'm getting older. Also this team has been telegraphing for over a half season how this season would end. I don't want to hear stats on how many runs this team scored it's a lineup that lives and dies by the home run. The problem is the weather cools in October and the ball doesn't carry as well in summer at OPACY. The Orioles actually got good pitching, but the offense came up small yet again. Elias needs to rethink the types of hitters he has on the Orioles roster and evaluate the effectiveness of having two hitting coaches. There's even an offensive strategy coach and what exactly does he do? "Hey Adley next time you get up the plate try not to make an out".

      Completely agree and there's no reason the O's shouldn't be a serious player for Soto.  Him and one top starter and I'm happy.

      Add a couple of seasoned professionals who know how to win. Solid players who have been around a while. These young guys are talented for sure, but that’s not enough. They need to learn to play better as a team and know what it takes to win consistently.  I honestly think they get caught up in reading about how good they are, not proving it on the field day after day.

      Except Cruz wasn’t an overpay. He’s the rare older free agent that actually earned his money. By the way, Cruz was the 55th highest paid player when he signed his FA deal after he played for the Orioles. He wasn’t even that expensive.    But that’s just an aside. I understand what you’re saying and your point is valid. I’m just still irked that the Orioles basically punted in that offseason that Cruz walked. I hope they are fiscally brave enough to take the next step and not count on Holliday and Mayo to improve next years team.
