Post here when defense cost us the game

The premise is simple, if an error is committed, or a play which could of been made isn't, and said play directly corresponds or contributes to an O's loss, post it here.

This thread will serve as a place to look back on and keep track of how often these errors/ missed plays result in a loss.

Frankly, as much as I hate seeing errors, if we win the game, does it really matter? That's why I'd like to keep this thread to only the errors which effected the outcome in a negative way.

Look for updates to this OP throughout the season...

4/10/12 vs NYY

With 2 outs in the sixth, and the Orioles leading 4-2, Reynolds allowed Mark Teixeira to score from third when he mishandled a sharp two-out grounder by Russell Martin. Curtis Granderson moved to second at a result of the play and would soon score off a Brett Gardner single. NY ties the game as a result of the error and would later win on an Ibanez RBI single in the 12th

4/20/12 at LAA

With 2 outs in the first, and the Orioles down 1-0, Nolan Reimold allows Torii Hunter to score from second base when he misjudges a short fly ball to LF. Play was not scored an error but should have been made. Angels take 2-0 lead.

With 2 outs in the second, and the O's down 2-0, Robert Andino allows Alberto Callaspo to reach first base when he commits a throwing error to Chris Davis. Eric Aybar would advance Callaspo to second base on a bunt base hit. Howie Kendrick would then hit a single to center and Callaspo would score. Angels take 3-0 lead

With 0 outs in the sixth, and the O's down 3-1, Darren O'day comes in to relieve Brian Matusz with the bases loaded, Howie Kendrick hits a double, and 2 runs easily score, but a 3rd run (Erick Aybar) scores when a relay throw from Jones is whiffed at by both Andino and Hardy. O'day would then retire the next three hitters without a ball leaving the IF. A grounder to third by Pujols, and K's to both Hunter and Trumbo. Angels take 6-1 lead.

Angels would win game 6-3 and missed plays cost the O's at least 3 runs

5/14/12 vs NYY

With no outs in the top of the 4th and the O's leading 2-0. ARod at second, Cano at first. Chris Davis mishandles a ground ball from Mark Teixeira that prevents him from turning the double play. He settles for the force at first while ARod and Cano advance to second and third. The very next batter is Nick Swisher who promptly hits a double to the gap that scores both runners. Although it was not scored an error on Davis (cannot assume the DP), it's a run that could have easily been prevented.

With no outs in the top of the 6th and the O's leading 5-3. Bases Loaded. Luis Ayala comes in to relieve Hammel. Ayala gets Eric Chavez to ground out to first but Davis commits an error and lets the ball roll into RF allowing 2 runs to score instead of turning the easy DP. Ayala was able to escape the inning without any further damage but the Yankees would later score 3 more runs and win the ballgame 8-5.

No fewer then 3 runs are the direct result of Davis' 2 misplays in the field.

1pt Mark Reynolds

1pt Nolan Reimold

2pts Robert Andino

1pt JJ Hardy

2pts Chris Davis

Nick was in poor position to throw out Cano. Had he had more momentum behind the throw, Cano would have been out. He caught that a little flat footed for some reason.

He does this often. Jones is better at positioning himself so he is already moving towards home when he catches the ball. Nick relies to much on arm strength in my opinion. Usually he gets away with it.

This skill is taught in high school by the way.
