I just heard on Sirius 86, Mad Dog radio sports update, that there are reports coming out saying that we are close to signing Johan Santana to a minor league deal.

Has anyone else heard anything on this?

Sorry for the Santana question...but which Santana is ready to be plugged into the rotation and which one needs to recover arm strength in the minors.

Thanks in Advance

Johan is the one who will likely need to be in the minors for rehab. Ervin is the one that will cost big money.

Ervin Santana is the one who is relatively healthy although there are some lingering rumors. Johan needs to recover his arm strength as his fastball is topping out at 81 MPH.

Duquette has done EVERYTHING this offseason.

Trades:

Danny Valencia for David Lough

Jim Johnson for Jemile Weeks

Free Agents:

Ryan Webb: 2 years $4.5 million

Ubaldo Jimenez: 4 years $50 million

Nelson Cruz: 1 year $8 million

International Free Agents:

SP Sukmin Yoon - Korean League

Amateur International Free Agents:

16 year old Jomar Reyes out of the Dominican - $300k

17 year old Carlos Diaz out of Mexico

Thats on to of:

Dariel Alvarez out of Cuba

Ofelky Peralta out of the Dominican

And Henry Urrutia not that long ago.

Rule 5 draft:

Michael Almanzar from Boston

And to cap it all of, take a flier on veteran reclamation project:

Johan Santana on a MiL deal

And the normal bevy of roster moves and smaller signings to add depth and competition.

Leave no stone unturned.

This is so dumb. Why not a 2 year deal. We fix him then he rolls.

It is a minor league deal. He isn't going to sign a 2-year minor league deal.
