Flash Era Coming to an End?

Flash went 0-15 his first 5 G playing out of position at 3B. Since then he is .250 .328 .400 .728. I'd be willing to bet he could at least sustain that the rest of the way. Decent for a plus 2B. with a .785 DP%

Flaherty's wRC+ is now 82. Almost exactly the same as what he finished last year. Schoop's wRC+ is now 63. On offense, Flaherty is creating runs at a near 20% better rate than Schoop has so far this year.

I think it's time for a platoon to see what Flaherty will do with regular AB's now. He usually is a slow starter and picks it up into the season; let's see if that's the case. If not, he can't be much worse that Schoop now.

This is so misleading. First, take away 15 outs from Schoop and he looks better too. Second, Flaherty's OPS was .647 in June, .699 in May, and .502 in March/April. The supposed decent hitting you are referencing is entirely built on a good three games in July. So take a player who hasn't earned significant playing time, subtract 10% of his stats, his worst stats, and then three good games can make him look decent?

I'm rooting for Flaherty. He is a very likeable player. But he turns 28 in a about two weeks and he's hit 20 homers in his career and is sporting a career OPS of .651. Schoop is 22 and is at .610. Schoop needs to get the majority of at bats. It is amazing how far some posters go to make excuses for Flaherty but ignore that Schoop is a 22 year old rookie.

That said, I would like to see

He's actuLly sucking against RHP this year. SSS of course, like everything to do with Flaherty.

He surprised me yesterday laying back on a ground ball to get a better hop. Ended up costing a chance at a DP. The short hop would have been tougher, but if he's to be considered a superior defensive player he has to make that play.

I would be willing to bet I have as good a chance of getting a date with Raquel Welch as Flaherty does hitting 250 or bettre a full season. LOL. If he somehow he did (heck Mark Belanger once hit 280 for a full season) I guarantee you the next year he would not be hitting his weight again.

Who ever said he was a superior defensive player? He certainly isnt.

Didn't he also hit below 200 one year?

No one really minds a utility infielder with little bat. Darwin Barney got a job today on the team with the highest payroll.

Raquel is 74 and single. You may have a shot.

    • Good post. .926 OPS since coming back from the IL. We saw this with Mullins and Mateo last year trying to play through leg injuries. It affected them at the plate big time.  Edit - I missed the part about him being banged up again. Crap.
    • Brach was specific in his analysis he saw Vlad targeting RF all afternoon long, even though it looked like Povich was trying to get in some.     Granted Vlad is an unusual RHH.
    • Scouts and stats - those two guys have a pretty gigantic contrast though. Povich and Irvin are I think kind of similar to Santander and Kjerstad or O'Hearn and Mayo roles wise for the ballclub.
    • Cowser’s bat will come around. It’s a bonus that he’s decent enough to play CF. He must’ve worked really hard in the offseason. That’s probably why we saw Hilliard get the quick hook in ST. The FO saw.
    • Yohan Ramirez surviving on the Dodgers.  Last 6. 6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 runs. Mike Baumann.  Last 5 5 IP, 2 H, 1 unearned run, 1 BB, 5 K   You never know.
    • I had a heck of a time figuring out where to post the thread even. The only reason they are even in the tournament is because they are hosting. Sounds like they have a good shot to make it to the next round. This format of Cricket is a lot more conducive to upsets.
    • Very excited about Cowser.  Kid is a player and I think the summer is going to be big for him.  My biggest take away on the season to date is how good the four young stars on this team are and that they play right up the middle: C, SS, CF and, if you wanted, 2B.  Once Holliday is here, and Westburg is at 3B, this team will only have to fill the corner OF, 1B, DH and bench spots.  There are copious options for that now and they will soon include Mayo, Kjerstad and Basallo.  And, yes, Mayo may stick at 3B and Basallo can catch.  I know there is discussion of how well, or not, Elias has done drafting after the 1st round, and that he won't have high picks going forward, but this offense is set for so long.  Just keep the pitching strong and look out.
