Matusz must be mat usz all git out. Did his job but JJ didn't. Reminds me of the Brooks 3-error inning--cdn't believe it as I listened over the transistor radio. To be fair, Davis didn't pick two throws in the dirt that he often does.

Be careful with Beltre!

For those people coming down on Davis, just remember he's RH. The throw from Hardy was atrocious and to Davis' right, meaning he had to backhand it to make the scoop.

Not an easy play, whether he slaps his glove or not. Hardy rushed his throw and would have had the guy by three steps if it was online.

Beltre is going to destroy Preston.

I wouldn't call a single that only advances the lead runner by one base to have "destroyed" Guilmet.

However, Guilmet is being destroyed a la "death by a thousand cuts". You can't give up back to back to back singles like that in a close game.

    • Teams also mentioned include the Orioles. I’m surprised Seattle wasn’t higher. Despite the rain, it’s a beautiful area.
    • It's hard for me, an old timer, to balance Frobby's OP - "Looking into the dugout at the team we have" - with this crap. I just try to ignor or mute all this money grabbing greed from both the Union and Owners - and focus on the sport and team I love. I hate the partnership with betting and all the in your face advertizements. But, that is where we are in 2024. Can't wait to see THE PATCH on the awful (in my judgement) city connect unis. Old saying - "The clothes make the man." Not any more. Thankfully, they don't make the team.
    • The difference between the two teams is the Cards have a long history of being one of the best-run franchises in baseball, the O's were coming off historically bad seasons. The Cards will try to get to the playoffs this year if they are still close to a WC berth at the deadline.
    • I agree.  But that was not Malike point.    His point was that the O's were in it until the last few games of the 2022 season.  And I said they traded Mancini and Lopez at the deadline anyway. In some ways the Cards and the 2022 O's are in similar situation.   Two .500ish teams that probably will not go deep into the playoff if they make it.  Elias philosophy is/was that if you don't think you can go deep in the playoff sell at the deadline.   What will the Cards do?
    • It appears we'll have to acquire our talent from trades, the players voted in the MLB 2024 player poll today and nobody likes the O's. It was just more than 100 players interviewed about evenly split between the AL and NL.
    • One thing I love about baseball in general is the history, and no team prostitution. Then we got the naming rights lunacy, and we no longer go to Comiskey park, it’s Guaranteed Loss field…oops..Guaranteed RATE. But before that it was US Cellular field. And next season it will be “whoever pays up field” And now putting advertising on uniforms. It’s tawdry. It’s cheap, and I hate it. And it means not a thing to the day to day operations, nor will it result in a couple extra bucks being offered to anyone.  Please Lord, let the park’s name remain not for sale.
    • I have brought up Taylor Ward (30), as have others, regarding thinking he'd be a solid addition.  I look at Ward and think, quality corner outfielder, a solid right-handed bat, and under control another two and a half seasons. All true, but my heart tells me that since Hays is a younger, and somewhat similar comp for Ward, Elias will stick with Hays.  Yet, if Hays reverts back from his recent surge and stinks in the coming weeks, that could change Elias' mind.
