Why not get it calibrated?

I guess they have a tight budget and the parent team won't foot the bill.

I agree, couldn't cost that much, could it?

I just learned that Bowie's gun is also off, but by 1-2 MPH.

It's a shame, I wouldn't expect State Trooper type of calibration for the court system, but still.

Could have to do with where the gun can be placed at the field and the specifics of the gun operation. How often is it rebooted? Who is the maker? How old is the gun? Lots of different things go into hot/cold readings than calibrating (though a gun used for scouting should be calibrated once a year).

Around $75 to have a Stalker Pro II calibrated. About a one or two week turnaround depending on the time of year. I don't think Frederick uses that quality gun, though. Depending on the maker details as to calibration could vary significantly (including turnaround time).

Only once a year? I would have guessed more frequently then that. That's pretty good.

Depends on how old the gun is, but generally once a year is fine. I even skipped mine this year because it has been reading fine and consistent with guns around me. Woohoo $75 in my pocket.

He uses a crossbow with hunter Harvey before the games

Why does he need a gun?

I suggest you read the rules, before posting here:

Thanks, which is what I was thinking, not a budget breaking thing to deal with.

Then there is no excuse for having that bad of a radar reading.

How much of a Baltimore guy are you now? Have you done the Old Bay, have you had Blue Crabs? You’re a good ol’ country boy from Oklahoma, now you’re here in Maryland. Are you making the transition?

DB: ... Old Bay? No.

What the ****??

All the worry and concern about DB and his velocity is just utter nonsense at this point. Its a known fact that guys who are just returning from the surgery are specifically told to not push to hard and to concentrate on things like pitching motion, mechanics, trusting their arm and pitch selection rather than trying to prove they are back by chucking it full force. Trying to analyze what his gun readings are is as silly as timing an Olympic sprinter just coming back from a completely torn hamstring and panicking he his times are off....its entirely possible DB could chuck it up their at 97 mph but its the last thing his trainers, physical therapist, surgeon and coaches want to see.http://www.azsnakepit.com/2009/10/28/1099055/everything-you-wanted-to-know

0-7 Days: Splint is worn, squeeze a soft ball.

1-4 Weeks: Discontinue splint; sling worn for one more week; gradually achieve full range of motion.

1-2 Months: Full range of motion at elbow, wrist, forearm, shoulder; lightweights for forearm exercises.

2-3 Months: Continue lower body conditioning program; continue exercises for upper extremities, including rotator cuff.

3-4 Months: Easy tossing (no wind-up), 25-30 throws building up to 70.

4-5 Months: Continue throwing program with easy wind-up, 20-50 feet, 10-40 throws.

5-6 Months: Throwing program extends to 60 feet at half-speed.

6-7 Months: Gradually increase distance to 150 feet.

7-8 Months: Progress to a mound at half- to three-quarters speed, using proper body mechanics (stay on top of the ball, keep elbow up, throw over the top, follow through with the arm and trunk).

9-10 Months: Simulate game situations.

10-12 Months: Begin normal routine and make appropriate rehab starts.

However, that isn't the end of the matter. It will often take another year for a pitcher to become completely comfortable with his new arm. Pitching coach Mark Wiley referred to is as getting the "feel of the ball" and it has been described as being like learning how to pitch all over again. Said Wiley of that first season back, "They keep their heads above water and contribute ... but they're not as consistent."

    • The pitchers are adjusting to him, now he’s going to need to adjust back.  I still don’t know what level of hitter he’ll be when he finally settles in at his level.   I do know that the depths Mateo reached last year are exceedingly rare.
    • We are the better team with the much better trade chips/minor league pieces. Any move they can make we can counter and then some!
    • The walking part is true, though I was a little surprised to see how much worse Cowser's K and BB rates both are compared to last year. 2023 he ran a 22:13 K:BB, this year it's 33:9.  Obviously this year's overall results are better. But it seems like he's still calibrating the aggression meter to MLB pitching and the current iteration has led to crushing the baseball (he's at 99th percentile barrel percentage), but a ton of K's and less BBs. Hopefully he can find a happy medium, similar to how Gunnar evolved away from being too patient at the beginning of last year.
    • First of all, this comp makes no sense. Mateo had a history of not being that good. His ML stats weren’t good and his MiL stats were very underwhelming. Meanwhile, Cowser was a talented, top 5 pick out of college who put up huge MiL numbers.    Im not surprised Cowser is struggling some. He’s playing everyday and playing vs all lefties. In a perfect world, he would be sitting a few times a week right now but the injury to Hays has hurt that. That said, he has had some bad calls against him and is still doing something positive every game. Despite the garbage throw yesterday, he has a highly rated arm and is playing very good defense overall.  I do wonder if he hurt his knee yesterday though. That will be something to watch. But yea, I don’t see this as a comp worth mentioning. Just far too many differences between the 2 players.
    • Urias off the team, probably. Or an injury. Given how much they value Urias' glove, I suspect he'd have to be terrible at the plate all the way through the All-Star break before they'd consider that kind of move.
    • I'd trade him for Bryce Miller before I traded him for Mason Miller.  That not a knock on Mason either but I will take a good young starter over a great young reliever any day.
    • @RZNJ’s Liranzo thread reminded me that the FCL season starts tomorrow!  Have we heard what the roster will be?
