Its a Sunday. Its a day game. Its on the road. Its us going for a sweep. Its us against DAVID PRICE.I think we know where this is going. If I say I'd say our chances to win

Sunday are small they'll say its a reverse jinx attempt. Nope, I just think we can't win three in a row against a team like Detroit.Id be thrilled to win any of the three, but make no mistake, we COULD LOSE all three. I'm as proud and as thrilled of this team as anyone and I think its been a stellar year, but this series is FAR from over. We need some clutch pitching and some big hits, like always, but its been a great run so far and as always, I hope for the best and take nothing for granted.

We very may well lose 3 in a row. Still, I'm glad they have to win in a row and we don't.

I agree that Price-Norris on their field is a tough matchup. But some of these factors are overblown. Does it really matter that it's a Sunday day game? The Orioles didn't play the day before. They won't be resting any starters. They just won a game that started three hours earlier than the start time of this game. And it's a bit of the gambler's fallacy to say that the odds are longer because the Orioles won the first two and "it's hard to win three in a row." That's like saying the roulette wheel landed on red the last two times so black is due. The only way the result of the last two games might make this one tougher is that the Ausmus might go to more desperation tactics such as using Porcello for relief, stretching out Price, playing matchups with the bench earlier, etc.

I think most of you are a wee bit overconfident. This series probably should be 1-1. That's not the reality though but the truth is, we still face Price today and we're now playing in Detroit. Scherzer looms in game 5 and he's very capable of pitching better than game 1. Porcello in game 4 is no picnic either.

I don't know. I just can't join in with the confidence I'm seeing. I'm still just as anxious as prior to game 1. I think this Tiger team is dangerous and I won't breathe easily until that final out is recorded.

By your logic, it would be even tougher for Detroit to sweep 3 from a team like the Orioles.

I'm with you that this series isn't over but take issue with your jinx talk and how "difficult" it is to win 3 in a row. You should keep in mind that what set the table for success this season was the mindset that Buck instilled of approaching one game at a time. This focus has led in large part to lack of losing streaks. When the emotions take you away, bad things can happens. Buck has insisted on focus and all year long we've heard nothing to the contrary of the mantra "one game at a time". I don't believe that for some reason, the O's will let their foot off the gas because they are somehow convinced they can't be so successful. They would not have run away with the division if they thought otherwise. This team believes in itself. And we're seeing first-hand how that can pay off watching the Giants reel off 10 consecutive playoff wins. And the O's can't win 3? Come on.

Anything is possible.

Today's weather report for Detroit:

Cold

Followed by periods of wind.

And more cold with al-key-hal consumed in the stands.

Players will be checking their bats for bees after they foul off a pitch.

No diving signs will be posted on the frozen turf.

Enjoy.

I've been up since 5am...can't sleep. A combination of nerves and excitement. I don't take anything for granted, and I won't celebrate until we record the final out, be that today, tomorrow, or Wednesday.

BUT....

I can say that the champagne is in the fridge waiting for another celebration like the Mrs and I did when we clinched the East.

Let's Go O's!

We Won't Stop!

At the beginning of the series I said the pressure was all on the tigers. Two games in and I stand by that statement. They lose today and and it's over, and then the finger pointing and ship jumping starts, and some heads are going to roll because of another postseason failure. It's gut check time in Detroit.

Yeah, yeah, anything is possible, but since May 30 the O's have lost 3 in a row twice. They just don't do that.Buck won't let them.

Yes, they do--they've done it FOUR TIMES this season, against lesser opponents than a bunch of Cabrera-led Tigers backed into a corner. Buck won't "let" them? What's he going to do--fire the players? El Gordo, it's not like you to say such things. You must be dizzy from the Magick.

This.

If we lose Sunday we lose the series. Tigers will catch their breath, and sweep us out just like the Pirates did in '79. I can see it as if it's already happened, and it's going to hurt like hell.

    • Nice.  Burnes is pretty cutter heavy too.  Gotta love when these reliever types just come out of nowhere.
    • He had a 777 OPs vs righties last year and just under 900 the year before.  Right now, the struggles are nothing more than a SSS. That said, he was terrible vs lefties his first season. You wonder if he has concentrated more on hitting lefties vs righties?
    • You know what, I actually mess that up.  I always say at bats and that’s really not right..it should be PA but anyway, my threshold is more of a games started type of thing. for me, the Os only have 1 everyday player and that’s Gunnar.  Everyday being defined as 155+ games. Adley, being a C, should rest (as in a full game off) more often imo. After that, it just varies. I think yon could say a guy playing 135 games is an everyday guy.  I’m not trying to nitpick on semantics.  I look at it more as, take away PA from someone.     I have said I think this will be one of, if not the best, year of Mounty’s career. I don’t want him sitting too much but I don’t see anything wrong with saying he’s a 550ish PA guy vs 650ish. Now, if he’s on fire and hitting all pitching, that plan can obviously be altered but the current plan for me would be to target 550ish PA..so, 135-140 games.  It’s not a huge difference but you do that with him, with Santander and with Hays and all flan sudden, you find a bunch of at bats for a young hitter with bigger upside.     That’s really what all of this is about.  I have never once said I want Cowser and Kjerstad playing everyday. They aren’t Gunnar.  They aren’t Holliday or Mayo either, 2 other guys I expect to be true everyday guys. But they can play 135-140 games, just like Mounty and be really good imo.   Right now, there are vet bats here stopping that. For me, I’m looking for ways to get the bats in the young guys hands as much as possible and I don’t feel sacrificing at bats from a good but not great player is some tragic way of doing that.
    • So Willson Contreras has a broken forearm because catcher's are now moving up on the plate to try and frame/steal pitches.  JD Martinez (who stands way far back in the box), crushed him, swinging a pitch. If it was automated strikes, there would be no reason for him to stay so far up and this wouldn't have happened.  I know this is a weird outlier, but I thought it interesting nonetheless.
    • We are used to essentially GG level defense at every position except for RF on a nightly basis.  If you think the board panics after every blown bullpen lead, wait till you see us lose games because of errors.  We haven't seen that really in 3 years.  Outside of one game one offs with Mckenna and O'Hearn.
    • I'd say Adley's splits vs RHP are far more troubling. His job isn't threatened though so I guess it is not a developing situation?
    • Spot on.  We're also getting everyone's best shot this year, and I'm sure pitcher's didn't want a 21 year old teeing off on them.  So that little bit of competitive extra motivation means alot at this level.  He wasn't flying under the radar in the 9th spot.   With that said, would he see better pitches hitting 2nd in between Gunnar and Adley?  Pitchers wont have that luxury of facing him at the bottom of the lineup where they can drop in their ungodly breaking stuff on the corners.
