2015 Minors Spring Camp

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Sunday was a camp day and workouts were on a volunteer basis. Monday's game at home with the A - level teams were cancelled due to wet fields, but the AAA and AA teams did play away. Today's games were against Tampa Bay teams. Oriole's catcher J. P. Arencibia was sent over to get some innings in.

Brenden Webb hit home runs yesterday and today. He may be beginning to grow into his power.

Pitchers scheduled for today:

Norfolk: S. Johnson, Keller, Escat, Givens, McCoy, Drake, Delgado.

Bowie Bridwell, Taylor, Bleeker, Hart, Tolliver, McGranahan.

Frederick: Hess, L. Gonzalez, Duffy, Long, Burke.

Delmarva: B. Gonzalez, Means, Cunningham, Ghidotti, Ayers.

Scheduled for Wednesday are:

Norfolk: Wright, Davies, Villanueva, Kasparek.

Bowie: Berry, Kline, Urban.

Frederick: Grimes, Crichton, Bill, Yacabonis.

Delmarva: Jimenez, Alvarado, Grendell, Schuh, Nootbaar.

Lineups:

Norfolk:

CF: Ruettiger; Yastrzemski (T7)

2B: Navarro.

1B: Walker; Haerther (T7)

C: Arencibia; R. Perez (T7)

DH: Urrutia.

LF: Tuiasosopo; Burgess (T7)

DH: Halton.

3B: Almanzar.

RF: Latimore.

SS: Gibson; S. Schoop (T6)

Reserves: (RH) Ward, Freitas.

Bowie:

CF: Davis.

SS: Marin.

1B: Mancini.

LF: Hewitt.

C: Sawyer.

DH: Webb.

RF: Simpson.

DH: Herbst.

3B: Hutter.

2B: Pena.

Reserves: (LH) Russell (T7), Nathans (T6). (RH) Starr (T7), Esposito (T6), Olesczuk (T7), Grim (T7), Perez.

Delmarva Projections: I have been considering Riley Palmer as one first baseman, although he is listed on the foster as an outfielder, with the alternating 1B/OF Hector Veloz. However, Logan Uxa, a pick up from another organization has been hitting well and could win time at 1B for Delmarva.

    • I'm referring to recent Cowser. Overall he's had a pretty good year.
    • I get it, however there are a lot of teams that are playoff team who are struggling the second half. The Yankees have faired about the same. The Os can still win the division. I do agree that the best hope is the position players return, and play to their potential, and the same with the injured pitchers who could be back. I would feel a whole lot better going into the playoffs with those guys back.  Let me put it this way: I followed the Giants a lot because the Os sucked and my wife is a life long Giants fan. The 2010 team that won the WS didn’t feel that dominant going into the playoffs, but they caught fire and players that were not well known became hero’s.  This team is going to make the playoffs, if they shit the bed in the playoffs again, then I am ready to discuss all of this. Until then, this team still has a chance to win it all. The Rangers didn’t feel like a better team than the Os last year but they ended up winning it all.
    • Cowser has a .760 OPS as a rookie. Holliday and Mayo should be expected to be taking lumps and Mayo has hardly been given a real chance of sustained playing time. O'Hearn is just showing what he is, not an every day guy. He is closer to the grouping of Rivera/Jimenez/Slater than should be to the others. A cash considerations dump that we are very fortunate contributed for as long as he did. Not someone I think we should be counting on to carry the offense however. Adley has been very disappointing yes- so that one I agree on. But its the injuries to several of our main guys and filling those spots with the aforementioned names above that has really taken a fragile offense and sunk it to these levels.
    • Exactly.... plus, getting some pitching, etc. back you just never know - we know the talent and track record is there.  Maybe my expectations are too low but, if they make the playoffs and lose, it is a repeat from last year.  Not good, but what this team has been through...
