Encarnacion has some pretty good #'s.  20 year old in High A.  SO rate is insanely high though.

Cumberland is a 23 year old catcher with so-so #'s who was just promoted from AA (old for level).

Phillips is a dominant reliever.

SP Zimmerman has some good #'s but has done most of his damage this year at High A and he's 23.

This does NOT appear to be a great return for Gausman.  I see four secondary pieces.  No prospect on the level of a Yusniel Diaz.

Sounds like the $2.5MM in international $$ will go toward that high level prospect.

Braves are very well run organization. I'd say we got fleeced a bit. Gausman in the NL with outfielders who can actually catch is going to be very good. Hopefully not Jake Arietta good but very good for two more years

I suspect the Braves will DFA O'day next spring.

Silver lining is the International Slot money and what big plan the O's have for it.

Carmona is a serious upside guy a ways off. Which is what this team lacks. Ortiz is a nice young arm.

Villar is a toss in, but he has had some terrific years prior. Could be a nice piece we can move later on. Not sure how much control left.

Villar reminded me of Andino even before we got him.

It's a horrible thing.  What do we need freed up payroll for next year???  To go out and buy that free agent that is going to allow us to make that run?

If EVERY team in baseball said, "Hey Orioles, I'm going to send you our bad contracts for the next two to three years.  But along with it, I'm going to give you top prospects," then we should take that deal.  Because we won't, and SHOULDN'T, be investing that money in anything intended to compete right away.  That's not what you do during rebuilds.  You invest the money in ways that allow for a prospect return.

Really?  Shedding payroll is a horrible thing?  It's not just NEXT year, it's for the following years, too.  It's for when some of these guys come up and contribute we can extend them before they hit FA.  So we avoid another Manny situation.

Next year, really?  C'mon.

O'Day is owed $9M for next year, so yeah salary dump was one factor in the ATL trade.

My guess is that was a sweetener by Atlanta towards the end of the negotiations.    I doubt we have up a system top 11 prospect that was in the deal in order to offload O’Day.

1st impressions from MILB reviews:

Cumberland a 1st rounder developing okay - Dan likes pedigree

Encarnacion the distant lotto ticket

Zimmermann a Baltimore, MD birthplace

Phillips another in the Pop/Carroll line of minor league relievers.

Because they threw in $2.5M in slot money. Gausman for VVM. We now have over $6M in intl slot money.

Just 6 million?  I thought we started with 5.5.  we should be at like a little over 8 now, unless we signed away $2 million in unannounced acquisitions.

Why would it matter if Gausman is Arrietta good?
