I'll take your word for it that he should have caught all those pitches. That inning alone does not prove to me that he's an awful catcher and that Bako, on balance is better for the team.

Far be it from me to make an outrageous claim like that!!!!! Dipper would be better for this team than Bako.

(Had to, Dip)

Yeah, House looked pretty decent for the first 2 innings, then his game went down the crapper. I don't know what the official line was, but there was only one pitch that could have even been remotely considered a wild pitch...the others were definitely passed balls.

Thank God, I thought I had lost my mind for a second.

From the game log:

PCL All-Stars Bottom 3rd

* Pitcher Change: Chris Booker replaces Bryan Bullington.

* Eric Patterson flies out to right fielder Brandon Moss.

* Alex Romero doubles (1) on a ground ball to left fielder Timo Perez.

* With Adam Jones batting, wild pitch by Chris Booker, Alex Romero to 3rd.

* Adam Jones strikes out swinging, catcher J. R. House to pitcher Chris Booker. Adam Jones to 1st.

* With Val Pascucci batting, Adam Jones steals (1) 2nd base.

* Val Pascucci flies out to center fielder Brandon Watson.

On the 5th Item. What do you think could have possibly happened there?

Romero tried to score from third on a wild pitch/passed ball. House retrieved the ball and threw out Romero at the plate, with Booker covering.

I didn't wait for the official scorer to call them passed balls before I posted -- for one because they happened so quickly. But when a ball that has no break on it hits the catcher in the heart of the mitt, the ball pops out, rolls to the backstop and almost allows a runner to score -- and he would have if not for a blown call by the home plate umpire -- it's a passed ball.

The more concerning issue is that even on the one pitch was ruled a wild pitch, house made absolutely no attempt to block the pitch. He's just not limber back there.

That being said, his bat seems to warrant giving him a longer look.

Even though the ball slipped out of his hand , he made a nice block and looks like he has an arm with the way he throws the ball back to the pitcher with a little juice. Maybe he just is not accurate, or he is throwing his hardest back to the pitcher.

LOL. Are you being serious here? By the way he throws the ball back to the pitcher?? I can't stop laughing!!

No I'm looking at the box score. I don't know how "comfortable" he looked out there but I'm a little tired of everyone saying he had 4 or 5 passed balls...

That brings up an interesting question... How man times at Norfolk have there been similar occurances where House should of caught/handled a pitch that for one reason or another did not get tagged as being a passed ball?

Yes and no. Watching any player for 2 minuetes or 4 innings is fools gold. I wish he would have thrown to second on the steal attemt, but just our luck the ball went the worng way, leaving my only way to get a look at his arm by him simply throwng back to the pitcher, which he did do with a little bit of mustard. Mackey Sassor is maybe one of the only catchers in history that the task of getting the ball back to the pitcher needed to be evaluated, but in seeing Houses' quick snap back to number one, he did look good in that aspect of catching. Granted this means nothing in the total equation of evaluating his defense of skills that are in question like throwing out runners, but seeing him tonight I think it is a foot work, arm angle, psychological ect.. thing in gunning down runners and not an arm strenth issue. Needless to say despite everything I'm reading and what I saw , there is no reason not to bring him up. Any thing is better than Bako, and if House chokes, there is Whiteside and Castillo that could take over the daily duties if nessacery for the remander of the season if needed.
