Elias is going to want him at Norfolk because that is where that where the pitching is going to be this season.  But he has to go through Frederick and Bowie first.

Frederick will have last year's Delmarva staff, which is as important or more so than the staff heading to Norfolk this year. Might also have Knight repeating the level. And Hall should be at Bowie.

I think Elias will worry more about Rutshman’s personal development than about which pitchers he catches.    He’ll get Rodriguez, Rom and others at Fredrick, Hall and maybe Hanifee at Bowie.     If he’s ready for Norfolk at some point, so be it, but I don’t know that they’ll rush him that much.  I’ll worry about it when I see how he’s doing.

I can't see AR spending the whole season in Frederick.

I expect AR to move up faster than any of the pitchers.

I can’t see that either. Half year in Frederick, half year in Bowie. Starts in Norfolk in 21.

This is what I suggested. Not sure how wildcard read into my response that he should stay in Frederick all year.

I also think Buck pushed Matt hard. Played him in a ton of games.

I'm also not a scout, but I remember Wieters first at bat in Baltimore. His bat looked slow even then. It's incredible to me how a guy can be such an elite hitter until the very top of the ladder. I do wonder if different coaching and/or analytics could have helped unlock him at the ML level. That's not as much of an "he was over worked" opinion as it is a "the O's might have been outsmarted" opinion.

I think your ideas that either Grayson or AR get promoted very aggressively are likely wrong. Elias has been very conservative in that regard. With that said, the truly elite often have a way of forcing the organization's hand a bit. It's possible both move faster than any of us (except you, lol) could have imagined.

I'm hopeful he'll lead Bowie into the playoffs as a genuine half year contributor, and that Rodriguez will do enough to earn a second level next year.  The future will be close enough to taste if those three (figuring Hall for full season to try and tame the walks monster) can become the cream of the Eastern League by Labor Day.

    • Free Stowers! RHP, Mountcastle on the bench, if the kid doesn't play today he's never going to.
    • Terrific.  So my board experience will stay the same then and you'll continue to be a non-entity in my world.
    • Brandon Hyde told us after the last game Gunnar would be leading off, so as much as I want to see Westburg in front of Gunnar, this comes as no surprise.
    • Thanks. I appreciate the support. I should have put them on ignore when they were pulling their schtick with Moose last week. That was remedied today.
    • Agree. Coulombe’s K/BB rates are actually better against righties but he’s vulnerable to HR’s against them.  I don’t really trust Webb as a set up guy and would rather see him in the 5th-7th innings. Cano’s whiff % is up almost 5% from last year as is his chase rate, but his K% is down 3%. He isn’t going to rack up a ton of K’s but it should still improve based off those metrics. I do still think they need another RHP in the pen who can strike guys out at a high clip.

    • I do think that this past offseason blew up in the face of Boras and his tactics, so we might be witnessing a league wide course correction/backlash against his negotiation tactics. There might be stagnation in the size of contracts being handed out with so many big market teams stuck in the payroll tax pit. And if that is the case, then it’s possible that some of us could be exaggerating expectations on his contract to some degree.
