Kodi Medeiros was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 draft, selected by the Milwaukee Brewers. The 6'2", 180 pound southpaw attended Waiakea High School in Hawaii. Medeiros threw 93.1 innings in A-ball in 2015 in his first full season. He averaged 9 K/9 and 3.86 BB/9 with a FIP of 2.96. Kodi then spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons in High-A of the Milwaukee organization. The lefty struggled in 2016 in 85 innings. He posted a 4.79 FIP while walking over six batters per nine innings and only averaging 6.78 K/9. In 128.1 innings in 2017, Medeiros improved the strikeout rate and pitched to a FIP of 4.16. Prior to his trade to the White Sox, Kodi had thrown 103.1 innings in Double-A for the Brewers with a 3.14 ERA and 4.16 FIP. The White Sox sent Medeiros back to the Southern League to pitch for the Birmingham Barons, where in seven starts he struck out nearly a batter an inning but also walked 5.8/9.

Medeiros was the highest drafted prep player to ever come out of the state of Hawaii. He has a 55-grade fastball with life that sits in the 92-95 mph range. His slider has been graded as a 55-60 grade offering and MLBPipeline calls it "plus with big lateral break". Kodi flashed an above-average change-up as well that shows good sink and fade when at its best. He's a southpaw with a low three-quarters arm slot and big control issues. He's also shown below average control but has improved dramatically since last season. His unique arm slot and poor control make him a candidate to have a future role in a big league bullpen. The White Sox have stated publicly that they believe Medeiros has a chance to stay in the rotation and that's probably where he starts 2019 at least. The White Sox added him to the 40-man roster in November. He could be a left-handed relief weapon if he's not able to remain in the starting rotation long-term.

We might as well just construct a staff of Means, Cobb, backend relievers like Bleier/Givens/Castro, and have 12-15 guys who are basically 2-4 inning pitchers, most with options.  Go with opener-follower-follower-backend strategy for games when Means and Cobb aren't starting.

It might actually be the most effective things to do, and in addition, it can serve as sort of a tryout... if someone like Stewart or Rucker or whoever shines as a 3-4 inning pitcher we can stretch him out and give him a more traditional starting role or use him following a 1-inning opener like Tampa did with guys like Chirinos last year.

That's true but look what Medeiros did in 2018 at AA  with he Brewers.

Starter:   5-4,  3.29 ERA, 15 S,  79.1 IP,  71 H, 82 SO, .239 avg, 1.31 WHIP

Reliever  2-1, 2.63 ERA,   5 G,  24IP,  19 H,   25 SO,   .218 1.29 WHIP

What is his spin rate? Does he have a 2s that can be swapped to a 4s?  Can the cutter be changed to a slider? How can he add deception?

Yes, I do.    My post is an opinion.   One that is my guess of what Elias will want.   He is looking to increase the talent  in the organization.  A 23 year old that has had some success as  a starter and a reliever at AA.   Has a 92-95 FB and a plus slider.   And 2 options left.  

If Elias is looking to the future then Medeiros looks like a better bet for the future than Armstrong or Smith IMO.
