No roster expansion in September this year.   In fact, it keeps dropping

Opening Day -- 30 man roster

August 7 -- 28 man roster

August 21 -- 26 man roster for the rest of the season

So the only way guys will come up is if guys get hurt, or if there is a guy being kept down artificially for some period of time for service time or some other reason.   (Or for a "Bowie Shuttle" to bring up fresh pitchers).

I know. He has to be put on 40 man after year anyway.

I know it is a long shot but not impossible. Not like this team has a bunch of guys who would be hard to cut.

Mason Williams is only 8 months younger than Puig, don't need to see any more, he is who he is. Likewise with Wilkerson and Smith.

Looking forward to the other five guys getting hopefully all of the playing time in the outfield and hopefully some at first and DH.

Good point, but we still have rights to them beyond this season.  I feel like I'm the only one that believes Wilkerson can have value.  He has more value if he isn't playing every day, is super utility, and only bats left handed.  I am done with Smith too bc of his glove, but I'm willing to see one more year of him to see if there is any bat tool in him.  My point about Puig isn't about thinking these guys have futures, I just think its a poor investment, and I'm ok with place holders until we develop or sign better guys.

Stop? Puig takes 200-250 ABs away from the others.  Why is Hayes, Santander, Stewart, Mountcastle, Diaz, Williams, Smith Jr, Wilkerson, Velasquez not enough?  I'd even give McKenna some hacks.  Signing Puig is a Duquette Era move, not blaming Dan as he was handcuffed, but this is suppose to be a different team with a different, more pragmatic and proactive approach, than the team Dan had.

Evidently it's a 2020 Braves move who just won 97 games, and have a young outfield of Acuna, Riley, and if not Nick Markakis then top prospect Cristian Pache. Oh and don't forget Inciarte and Ozuna.

But sure, keep telling me that Smith, Williams, and Wilkerson are suddenly in line for storied Orioles careers because we didn't sign Puig.

I mean would it be a shock in early September if say a Nunez was released?  He had a decent year last year with power but if he can’t play the field what value does he have? Dwight Smith could be let go at any moment. All of the utility guys.

I would not be opposed to using the last 20 games of the year as a means to get some development for some young players. I know it would be a small number of games but it is better than zero. It also doesn’t mean that player has to be in Baltimore at the start of 2021.

I was for signing Puig but I think most people here would be for signing him to a 1 year deal if we were a contending team. The idea is that he will stunt someone’s development here (which I don’t buy) as he won’t be part of the next winning squad.

Just saying that if the Braves have room for six outfielders (three of them are amazing prospects at the MLB level) and they still desire to add Puig to replace Markakis; I dunno what to tell you. Braves look like a better franchise than the Orioles at present.

In order to be a super utility guy you can't be a liability defensively and Wilkerson definitely is in the outfield, one catch notwithstanding.

As far as his lefty/righty splits, they went the other direction as recently as 2017 and he has never faced lefties batting left handed so who knows.

If we could pencil in his LH batting numbers I could live with him as a backup 2nd baseman  and third baseman but he doesn't have the bat to be anything more than an emergency 5th outfielder with a below average glove.

They are trying to contend.   Their lineup has lost Donaldson, Freeman (at least for a while), and Markakis from last year, and wanted to add a proven bat.   And they also gained a spot in the batting order from last year as the NL switched to using a DH.

Lots of reasons that move made sense for them while it wouldn't for a rebuilding team.

Bummer! He would have been tons of fun, and a decent comp to Mancini WAR-wise.

Then again, Santander is back at camp and Mountcastle should be up soon. So it doesn't matter a whole lot other than the novelty of watching Puig be an Oriole.

Ahh yes, the novelty.  I remember the novelty of Sosa as an Oriole, and Vlad.  Good times.

This one would have been younger, much more athletic, and worth nearly 6 fWAR since 2017. My enthusiasm, however, is based on assuming it would have been a 1-year deal for 60 games.

Derek Lee.

Miggy II

Raffy II

Heck, even Eddie II

Doug Drabek, Fernando Valenzuela, Sid Fernandez

We were great at picking up guys who had their best years behind them.   Dwight Evans, Rick Burleson, Joe Carter, Ozzie Guillen.  Bob Horner never made it out of training camp.   The list is endless.
