I can remember when WGN was broadcasting Cubs games nationally when I was a kid.  Listening to Harry Caray blather nonsense and Steve Stone trying to make sense of it was pure gold.  Toward the end of his career, after senility had nearly completely taken over Caray's mind, he was trying to pronounce the player's names backwards and stuff like that.  It was wild.  Harry was one of a kind.

What is it that Carpenter does that's so bad?  I'm asking so I can learn to be more cynical and jaded.

To me, he comes off as such a Nats homer (Jim Hunter esque), thinks the Nats can do no wrong, and has a lot of cheesy lines (that's a loud sound! when a home run is it).  Maybe it's just a personal thing.  I don't hate him as a person, I just think he's fun to laugh at.

I agree with this and think he has improved rapidly. I started to enjoy him more last year when he started doing television broadcasts with Ben. I think they have good chemistry, are kind of lan odd couple that works, and I find them entertaining.

Ben and Kevin find a way to make me laugh through the losing most games. Last night they were talking about when Ben’s wife won an auction. Last year, a moment that stands out was I when Ben told him that he had never owned a computer. The humor in addition to the fact that I think they do a solid job calling games makes them a pretty good team in my opinion.

There are many I could complain about now, but I don’t view Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald as one of them.

While Ben uses a lot of the same clichés over and over and is little too much of a "homer," he does have very good chemistry with Brown. Right now they are the best duo the team has.

I believe Garceau and Palmer will be back starting tonight.
