Kyle Stowers 2022

We called up Terrin Vavra in the middle of a hot streak (he was OPS'ing 1.1.12 over his last 7 games in the minors and .910 over his last 28) and we see how well that worked out for us.

On the other hand, Rutschman was called up during a cold streak and while he of course did eventually right the ship, he was definitely hurtin' for a little while up there.

I'm all for getting a guy while he's hot up here.  Both Henderson/Stowers are hot right now (and Westburg is decidedly not), so I'd bring both of them up, IMO.

LOL does he qualify for the team lead with only 38 PAs? Phillips only has 37. That’s quite the SSS you’ve built your decision on.

Yet It seems to be a large enough sample size for you to call him a terrible hitter. Go figure

What are you talking about? I’m saying he’s a poor hitter based on 314 career PAs where he’s put up a .610 OPS. You’re using the 38 PAs this year as an argument.

McKenna posted  a .558 OPS IN 2021

McKenna has thus far posted a .694 OPS IN 2022

He has also posted a .927 OPS in 35 ABs against lefties.

All in a whopping half season of combined MLB play

I think it's a stretch... in fact a little silly to dismiss that as a terrible hitter

But whatever.

Yeah. McKenna isn’t as bad a hitter as some on this board make him out to be, but it’s not the strength of his game either.

on the other hand, lumping him in with nevin/phillips (and odor who wasn’t even mentioned), is equally ridiculous

He’s having a much better season offensively than last year (.694 OPS vs. .559).  At .694 you can justify carrying a defense-first OF.

Odor is vital to the teams success.  Duh!

Haha I thought my mildly critical post of Bradish would end up being the worst aging post of the night but you win.

for the record game winning home run and all I am ready for Stowers to come up. Send down Nevin and Odor to the bench

That's the correct move as I don't see the need for Nevin on this team, especially at the cost of not having Stowers on the roster.

    • Yes, I think it's fair to say that if you sat down every day and tried to design the least-logical lineup you could think of and used that lineup for each and every game, over the course of a full season that might cost you as much as 1-2 wins.
    • It’s like the people at Nike made the worst looking thing they could and unleashed it on Jays fans as a joke.
    • I agree.  That the Orioles have never signed a top tier free agent starter from the Angelos era on is one of the main reasons they haven't been a serious WS contender.  Letting Mussina get away was maybe the most devastating event to the franchise in the past three decades.  But does anyone miss Manny Machado?   I know that's a bit overly simplistic but the basic point remains:  elite pitching is more difficult to acquire than elite hitting -- especially under Elias' draft and development philosophy.  Under Elias this team does not appear likely to become a pitching factory, at least not for awhile.  The trade bats for arms philosophy more likely will just get us rentals like Burnes, unless we really start to trade top position prospects for top arms.  But even then what other team wants to trade top arms 2 or more years before free agency?  Maybe Elias can sucker the Angels or someone else out of a Kyle Bradish, but I'm skeptical it can be done again anytime soon, partly because we don't have any Dylan Bundys hanging around.  Even getting another Dean Kremer could be difficult.   Moreover, while pitchers may be more susceptible to injury, elite hitters can stop being elite fast after age 30.   And basic math suggests starters overall contribute more too.  A starter pitches every five games whereas a hitter only can contribute one ninth of all chances on offense.  And elite starters go deeper into games.  That said, it would be wise avoid top starters with an injury history -- unless it's a shorter term deal.  I'd love to land Walker Buehler, but would he sign for only three years plus an option?  The Dodgers probably don't let him get away anyway.  Similar deal with Max Fried. As far as I can tell Burnes is the only elite FA available that is not tied up in an opt out or option, not coming off injury, or not pushing 40 years old.  Maybe we can land some hidden gem of an arm coming from Japan or Korea, but it would have to be a Shota Imanaga stroke of luck.
    • What horrible uniforms. Must be city connect
    • Not afraid of Gausman at all.    Are these their city connect jerseys? They’re atrocious.
    • If you have to ask the question, the answer is invariably either city connects or some sort of military appreciation day.
    • Wow, you weren't kidding! Eww
