Btw, I’m all for the improvements and the idea of an “adult playground”.   I think it’s a great idea.

But I’m not sure it works in Baltimore until they clean up the city and get people in positions of power that care about crime.

I'm in favor of it if the owner is paying for it.

Have at it.

I find the idea that the State might be funding gambling facilities for private citizens nauseating.

I've complained a lot recently about not being able to get a wifi signal inside the stadium; the team's PitchCom attempt being nonfunctional; all of the "technical issues up in Baltimore" during Spring Training that had Roch filling in on PBP with a missing tooth; the lack of accessible elevators; on and on.  So I'm glad they might invest in upgrading that sort of stadium infrastructure.

When I read this last night, it seemed an obvious 30th Anniversary PR piece, but I could also read between the lines.  He seemed totally on the defensive for claims he's not spending enough on the ML team.  And it fell short.

They are completely renovating that monstrosity called the Baltimore Arena. Near the casino a Top Golf and major concert hall should be finished late 2022 or 2023 They are trying to make this area an entertainment hub.We shall see if it works. But Kevin Duran is one if the main forces behind the Arena rebuild.

Ever since they allowed casinos its been going in that directions.   Reminds me of Its a Wonderful Life or Back to the Future II.

So if the state is dedicated to allocating 600 million in funds to Camden Yards over the next ten years, why is the lease extension not signed? What else does Angelos want?

Well, the bill was passed like yesterday, right? It would seem that a lease agreement would be a logical follow on, but we shouldn't assume that businessmen won't still try to negotiate for the best deal they can get. Might take a few minutes.

Hopefully he is not like his father, who messed up a few lease deals with many counties in Florida while looking for a Spring Training site. Also messed up a deal to move the AAA team from Ottawa to Harrisburg.

Agreed, but that's just projecting at this point. Worthy of back of the mind just in case stuff, but he just got a 2-year extension followed by new funding. It stands to reason that they're related.

If they're not, I'll start to worry when the time comes, not just on utter speculation.

Well, a lot of the stuff the govt makes us pay for us nauseating.  At least I can enjoy this one.

Yep.  HarborPlace is about to get a major face lift too….and it’s good to see them doing it.  But none of it matters if you don’t let cops be cops and if you continue to be lax on crime.  People won’t come down and enjoy it if they don’t feel safe.

Totally agree.

But this may be a chicken-or-egg thing...  It may not be prudent to build until they have reasonable law enforcement in the city... but on the other hand... if they build... merchants, patrons, and the press will start demanding reasonable law enforcement.

You would hope but Brandon Scott has essentially given the middle finger to the biz owners in Fells and a big reason HarborPlace is so bad is because of this issue.

Not trying to be political but it’s just factual that the people in power in the city are either corrupt, are allowing this stuff and turning a blind eye or just don’t care…and usually, it’s a combo of all of those things.

You need people in power in the city who want the revitalization but also understand that you must attack crime, be harsh and get the streets cleaned up.  But I doubt that ever happens, so I’m skeptical about this project from a taxpayers POV.

Is this being discussed somewhere that I missed?     I'm a little surprised that I haven't been able to find it since yesterday.   Seems like pretty big news.

He talks about a timeline for the rebuild and about investing over $1B in the "Camden Yards Sports Complex."

https://www.mlb.com/news/orioles-chairman-ceo-john-angelos-statement

Sorry if this is a double post.

And by investing, he means taxpayer money, not his money.
