  1. 1. Are we buyers or sellers?

    • Buyers - willing to trade top 10 MiLB talent to be more competitive in 2022
      0
    • Buyers - willing to trade non-top 10 MiLB talent
    • Buyers - willing to trade from MLB depth only
    • Hold
    • Sellers - Only trading from MLB depth
    • Sellers - Only trading select players (i.e. team control/arbitration/talent window)
    • Sellers - willing to trade anyone on the MLB roster for prospects

A lot of you have Rutschman DHing on days he is not catching.  What if, heaven forbid, he turns out to be not a very good hitter? He just becomes a regular starting catcher that suits on the bench as a backup on days he is rested? At that point, you need a more permanent DH with a bat.

Then you acquire one?

I think trading Santander to play Stowers is easy. What’s the point of rebuilding if you’re not going to give your Co MILB POY a chance to play.

Trading Mancini is also easy too. You want AR DH’ing the 40-50 games he’s not catching.

Lyles was basically a stop gap pitcher that we should sell high on. Hopefully, with the wall moved back we’ll be able to attract more SP.

Lopez and Tate and sell high/getting expensive/low K relievers.

We have to build up our pitching inventory in the minors. There is nothing after Hall and GR. Hopefully by trading some spare parts that we can make up for the lack of drafting pitching.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves now.....we are only a few games ahead of last years pace.  Playing some decent ball, but in no way should we give up any long term assets.

What Buck Showalter taught us was winning isn’t as simple as turning a switch, it takes a culture. And a special leader. So just because you are supposed to be good, doesn’t mean you will be good.

He did?

What "culture" and "Special Leader" did the O's have in 2012 that they didn't have in 2011?

Those teams went from 93 losses to 93 wins with a LOT of the same players.

You need good players above all, I get it but establishing a winning culture isn’t as easy as turning a switch.

2023 salaries

Mancini $10 million

Lyles $11 million

Santander $5 million (projected)

Lopez $3 million (projected)

Tate $1.5 million (projected)

That’s $30 million in payroll in 2023. Plus we get payroll breaks after they’re traded this year.  Who thinks these guys aren’t getting traded?  Be realistic.

You don't think the 2010 O's, (34-23 under Buck) established a "winning culture"?  They somehow needed to go 69-93 in 2011?

I just don't understand your comments.

The O's "flipped a switch" in 2010 when Buck arrived, then they sucked again in 2011 and in 2012 they were suddenly better with mostly the same players.

The 1989 O's "flipped a switch".

It happens.

I can't see Mancini on the team next year for that dollar amount and even though Lyles has been better than expected $11M seems steep for the Orioles' tastes. Orioles will pay Lyles his $1M buyout if he isn't traded this season.

Once you get to the others, I can see them being on the team in 2023 unless Elias swings a trade he likes better.
