Where are the dingers?

Its become clear to me that the Os need some more lineup thump. We dont hit enough homers. We need to start acquiring more power in order to compete in the AL East.

We need a true middle of the order bat. I think Adley's ability to work counts is a great early indicator to what type of a hitter he will be.  I think he will be a #2/#3 hitter, but we strongly need a #4 and #5 hitter. It isn't going to happen, but man Soto would do wonders for our lineup. The good news is that the O's have a lot of free money moving forward although younger middle of the order guys do not seem to hit the marker very often.

Even the rookie Varra had a better at bat today than the rest of the lineup save Rutchman. 1 big bat and 1 #2 or #3 controllable starter and this team would be one of the 3 WC teams right now instead of being 3 out.

It’s noticeable that the guys that have come through the system learning swing decisions seem much better at laying off pitches out of the zone.

I had the same thought watching Vavra's at bat during the ninth inning. Excluding Adley just about every other Orioles hitter strikes out or makes weak contact instead of drawing a walk.

It's great if you can hit a home run there to tie the game, but many times this translates into a hitter swinging from his heels instead of having a quality at bat.

The dingers are all in the gloves of the left fielder at Camden Yards

I don't know about that.  The O's just completed a 3 game series against a very mediocre team that had just traded its best pitcher in arguably the most hitter friendly ballpark in the league, and, but for two Santander home runs, were horrendous offensively. We can talk about the left field wall affecting piwer numbers,  but that isn't the problem with this team.

Im wondering how much longer guys like Mountcastle and Hays really have here.  Those guys being dealt between now and ST next year is very possible to me.

Considering all the OFs we’ve drafted recently, I’d be surprised if any of our current OFs are here for long.
