The Rotation

I was listening to 105.7 yesterday afternoon. They made is sound like the rotation was decided but the fifth starter.

I think it was Roch, made it sound like Gibson, Irvin, Gray Rod, and Kremer are all in. The last spot is Bradish or Wells with the loser going to the pen. 
 

Thoughts? Do you think Hall start at AAA?

Bradish is a lock.  Barring injury or a GRod implosion, Wells is going to the bullpen.

Looks that way, then they can have him ready to pitch starter's innings in case of injury or poor performance while he gets to full strength physically. I'd prefer they go that route to giving him infrequent outings from the BP. He should be given every opportunity to fail as a starter first and he gets preparation for that at Norfolk.

Unless they do a 6 man rotation which I doubt they do but wouldn’t be shocking either.

There will be injuries. As long as they are healthy, Wells and Hall will get a chance. I think the Orioles were smart to pick up Irvin and consider anything that John Means gives you this year a bonus.

It’s interesting that the depth is potentially better than the guaranteed spots. 
 

Wells and Hall are both guys that I wouldn’t expect a full starters load anyways, so if they start the season in the bullpen and work their way to the rotation when the inevitable injuries happen then that’s fine with me. Though, I think Hall will probably start in AAA as a SP. I feel like starting him in the bullpen in MLB would be a good way to manage his innings and get him a long look against major league hitters in the meantime. He doesn’t have much else to prove other than control and that’s probably never coming around anyways if we’re being honest.

Unlikely they would do that since a 7-man bullpen won't be sufficient.

He's looking pretty beastly since the all-star break last year. Having Bradish take a step forward would help solidify the rotation alot.

Hey, it's not like Roch is a daily beat reporter that covers the team or anything.

I'm not a rocket scientist but I believe the rotation is set barring injury.... Gibson, Irvin, Bradish, Kremer, and Rodriguez... Wells will be the long man and get spot starts to manage innings, I see him getting around 15 starts unless Means makes it back to his pre surgery form ( figures Crossed ) Hall goes to AAA to work on his walk rate... I could also see us going to a 12 man staff for the first 20/26 days or so with all the off days giving the 26th man a little more time to battle it out in meaningful games

The rotation is set. Not official but it is.
 

-Yesterday 3/16 it was Irvin 
-Today 3/17 Kremer pitches 

-Tomorrow 3/18 Grod

-Bradish last threw on 3/10 in a MLB game, on a back field yesterday  3/16. 

-Gibson pitched last 3/13. I assume he starts one of SS games Sunday probably vs Pittsburgh. 3/19. 

The last spring game is Monday 3/27. Not more spring off days. Two off days before opener in Boston on 3/30. The 21st both Irvin and Bradish would be on turn and we face Boston. I was a little surprised more Jays regulars didn’t play last night but I doubt they pitch Bradish vs Boston even if the Orioles are home on Tuesday and then turn around and faces them in Boston. Will have to see. They can tweak who pitches by a day or so the last week of spring.

I can’t see the Orioles pitching Grayson tomorrow vs Sox and then again in Boston 2 weeks later. I can’t see them pitching Bradish vs Boston on the 21st and then in Boston so I guess Irvin goes that game. 
 

I’m going with Gibson, Bradish and Kremer vs Boston. Grod the first game in Texas and then Irvin. I’m guessing they want Kremer, Bradish and Grod set up to face the Yanks.

Gibson, Irvin, GrayRod, Kremer and Bradish throws a good mix of not sexy (Gibson) to hopeful (Kremer and Bradish) to potentially franche changing (GrayRod). 

 

I still think they should have taken a flyer on Trevor Bauer but those five guys above plus Wells, plus the eventual Means and potential of Hall make up for what could be the most underrated starting staff in all of baseball. Obviously they have to perform but there's A LOT to like about these rotation pieces, especially given the newly balanced schedules. 

 

Seth Johnson is the guy that I am keeping my eye on for this upcoming year. Although it's extremely unlikely that he throws in a MLB game this season, I genuinely think that his recovery and his potential to man a rotation spot for the next few years (providing he fully recovers from TJ obviously) places his importance to the O's franchise higher than that of DL Hall.
