As I posted in another thread, I had wanted to keep him down until he straightened things out. Fine w starting Voth and seeing whether he cd sustain what he did for the Os last season.

inauspicious debut for sure. I mean, we probably should not have been too surprised. this is the way he's looked all spring and that's not going to work against big league hitters. I was just hoping to see a different guy. this is the guy that pitched himself off the team. Poor command, and when he gets hit, it's loud contact.

Thank goodness he got that out. Would have hated to throw more than 30 pitches in an inning. Maybe he will calm down for the second inning.

I don't like that he can't replicate his motion, and you can tell by how he's following through on his pitches.  Sometimes he's square to the plate, other times he's falling off to the side.  So his front foot isn't landing in the same spot, he's not striding directly towards home plate...sometimes he's closed off to the RHB box and trying to compensate by swinging around to the left.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't go with Voth, but it was his day to pitch. i thought maybe he had a great side session between starts and that convinced him, but that's the guy we saw all spring.
