Isn't the ghost runner rule for regular season only? IMO if there is no ghost runner the stolen base becomes more valuable.

Isn't it always the outfielder's ball? Jorge has played outfield before, in the majors and minors. He will be fine, maybe even better than fine.

If this means seeing less of Mateo at SS, I am strongly in favor of it.  It could be about opening up a roster spot by making McKenna unnecessary.  O's must the the drop in offense is worth it

I think they're showing their hand as to Mateo being around for the rest of 2023. I also believe that this is showing that the Mateo situation will still be here in 2024.

Between starting McKenna in CF against RHP starters Gausman and McGill and now Mateo getting a start today, seems decided they don’t trust Cowser out there. 

Hays has to be hurt from that slide on Friday night to not be in the lineup today. Verdict could still be out on him in CF.

Either way, Mateo in CF pretty much guarantees that McKenna can be the one sent out when Mullins is activated. Will be interesting to see if it’s Cowser who goes for Hicks, or that doesn’t happen until rosters expand. 

Does Mateo in CF open more of a door for them to call up Ortiz? They still don’t have the roster space for it without an injury or DFA’ing Mateo.

I have no insider information, but when someone gives you signs, it's up to you to learn from them. Unfortunately Mateo has been one of the worst baseball players over 3 months, and here we are on 08/06/23 with the first place, best record in the AL team,  starting him in CF. Jorge Mateo will be in Baltimore in 2024.

I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that McKenna is the first to go down.  I could easily see Cowser going down for Mullins.  Either way, I think Cowser and McKenna are definitely gone when both Hicks and Mullins are back.
