Westburg trade value

He has a WAR of around 1 in less than 1/3 of a season worth of playing time....even with his best tool (power) not even taking off yet.  Westburg will be a 3-6 WAR player for the next decade...trading him would be foolish.

Depends what we could trade him for.   Anyway, I think 3-6 WAR for a decade is pretty bullish.   If you said he’d average 3 WAR for his remaining 6 years of team control, I’d probably buy it.

Maybe the surplus is what is used in a blockbuster trade for TOR controllable

I sure hope so.  But so far Elias has been very conservative on trades and free agent signings...will be curious to see how he handles this offseason.  I love Westburg, but would be happy to see him as part of a trade for a controllable starting pitcher.  I would have preferred Elias traded more expendable prospects like Norby and Stowers, but I fear he held onto them a year too long and their trade value/prospect status has diminished in the past year.  And now with Mayo, Kjerstad, and Holliday all major league ready in 2024 Elias will have no choice but to address the position player logjam this offseason.

I would certainly consider trade Santander, Urias and Mateo, O’hearn  in any combination with prospects like Ortiz, Norby , Mayo to see what big or small return was possible this winter

I agree that Norby, Ortiz and Mayo are more likely candidates to potentially get traded. With the logjam of prospects, I have to think Elias is going to trade some of the excess this off-season in return for pitching or an outside chance for an all star hitter.

With the way the game is played these days, 4 guys who can all hit for 3 spots is what you want.  So Mayo, Henderson, Holliday, Westberg is ideal IMO.   Mayo can also mix at first.  Some of those guys could also get spot starts in the OF.  Ortiz probably becomes the true utility guy if he’s not traded.

It is interesting… the hoarding/holding  of prospects certainly seems to be more Elias/Sig modus operandi.. very different than some.  I do like it !! More flexible in every way but highly dependent on scouting and drafting at high hit rates

I think the key is will the team be sold when Angelos passes and will that happen in time for the next part ..cause that is the only way the other part of the Elias Houston model works .. ie signing the core guys early to big extensions.

I really doubt Mayo is traded.  He’s 21 and would’ve been a top 3 draft pick this year if he went to college.  Ortiz is 25, Norby little younger at 23….but not 21.

And of course if Adam Frazier is signed again, people’s heads will explode lol 😂

I have thoroughly enjoyed Frazier's play for the Orioles--as I did Villar, Iglesias, Alberto, and Galvis before him--but I don't think his being around next year is something that anyone here needs to worry about.
