Santander is probably considered an impact bat; Hays and Mountcastle you could probably sell as "impact" position players- in that they're above average regulars.

I don't know about that, but there are things to like about him and he would probably upgrade the rotation.

Miller is someone I’d trade one of these guys for. Six more years of team control. I do wonder about the K numbers. They’re not bad, but you almost expect at least 9 K/9 now.

I think that depends on so many things.

I actually hate that phrase in these types of discussions because they aren’t getting some real impact bat for Miller…it would be Miller+.

And what do you consider impact? Is Santander, despite an OpS that tends to hover around 800, an impact bat?  What about Mountcastle?

Do the Mariners need an established player?  Do they want younger and more years of control?

Its such a throw away comment that really doesn’t carry much weight unless, as I said, they are willing to make him the centerpiece of a deal but will add to it to get a true bat….but what bat is that? Who is actually available?

His statcast numbers were just ok too.

1)  Trade Norby, and/or Stowers and/or Urias for a 4th or 5th starter.

He may be in on Cease but the bidding will probably  be very high.  Higher than I expect the O's to go.  Sounds like last year.

Rangers roll the TJ recovery injury dice on Tyler Mahle for 2/22.

Mahle's 2024 calendar probably will be about the same as John Means' entering 2023.     Means incurred the setback that cost him an extra 1-2 months.

2/22 probably about the $$$ Dylan Cease will pull in Arb before free agency.

Miller doesn’t really move the needle for me. He’s more of a 3/4 in a good pitching rotation.

 

Gilbert or Kirby, I would give up 2 of Cowser, Westburg, Kjerstad.

I think he can get there (+9K/9). He did it at every level in the minors and I'm not ready to write off his strike out ability after just 131 innings. My only concern with Miller are his secondary pitches. He threw his four seam fastball nearly 60% of the time last season. To get to the next level he's really going to have to get that fastball usage down and establish/use one of his secondaries more.

Two of those three might get you Gilbert, but I doubt they get you Kirby. Gilbert and Kirby aren't interchangeable. Kirby's worth considerably more.
