I can see this being the lineup on OD, at least the top 7…add in Westburg and maybe Holliday at the end.

Quick questions:

1) Do you prefer O'Hearn in RF or Santa?

2) Do you think they continue to have Mullins lead off or does Adley step back into that role?

I think Mullins is the lead off hitter to start the year.

I think people forget that there was a good argument that Mullins was the best player on the team last year prior to his first injury.  And even after the first injury, after a slow start, he started to turn it back on. However, once he got hurt again, he was a shell of himself.

So I think now that he is healthy, you put him back in the leadoff spot until he shows you shouldn’t.

And I guess Santander because of his arm.

At least 1 of Wong or Maton seems likely at this point.  I think the O’s would rather have the flexibility to bring up younger players than to lose veterans who they think can help.  Things could change quickly but that’s how I currently see it.

As of May 30 (1/3 mark of the season), Mullins was leading the team in both rWAR and fWAR.  He was hurt on May 29.   He was hitting .263/.356/.479 at the time, with 13 stolen bases.  That would be a good leadoff guy.

Yep..and he was hitting lefties very well too.

He was going to be an AS. I think it’s easy to forget because they feels like it was so long ago but he was absolutely fantastic for those first 2 months. He was on his way to maybe a better all around season than his 30/30 season was.

I prefer Santander.   O'Hearn scares me every time a ball is hit his way.

Just to play devil’s advocate a little, I wouldn’t say Mullins played great for all of those 53 games before his injury.  He wasn’t the team rWAR/fWAR leader after 18 or 36 games, for example.  He was on a nice heater just when he got hurt, .974 OPS over his last 16 games to take his OPS from .772 to .835.   But anyway, he was putting up better numbers than he did post-injury.

Now that Wong is here, it seems like Maton will be one of the first cut. Just no need for the guy.

I'll believe that when Holliday starts getting reps with the A team.  If Holliday is going to be on the OD roster then I'd think they would want him to start playing alongside Gunnar to build chemistry.  Until that happens, it looks like we're seeing Maton vs Wong for 26 man roster spot for OD.

Two developments yesterday that make the lineups interesting to follow. Gunnar came back, and Mullins got hurt. A couple of things to watch for with these lineups…

1. Who moves from the B squad to the CF spot on the A squad while Mullins is hurt?  McKenna and Cowser have been with the B squad to alternate in at CF starts.

2. With Gunnar back do we move Holliday to 2B on the A squad to start to build double play combo chemistry? It might be a week too early for that and young legs might keep making the bus trips away.
