I had been wondering the same thing. Thanks. I think Westy 3B and Mateo 2B is superior, but I understand the reasoning.

I would prefer Westburg stick to 3B, since that’s his likely long term spot also.
2B defense has been pretty bad over the past week regardless of who has been playing.

That is true, and a lot of the “badness” has been Westy him himself. I think he’s a very fine player, and I don’t want to sound disparaging, but I would much prefer that he be at third all the time.

Mateo has had some bad plays too.

He booted one, had the failed play at 2nd where Gunnar got the error, and made a pretty weak throw on Friday night that allowed a runner to reach.

The players? Clubhouse? Media? Come on Frobby, stop playing dumb.

I don’t assume they are distracted by the same nonsense that apparently distracts you.

Let’s sign Trevor Bauer, trade for Tommy Pham, and bring in Bonds to be our new hitting coach then.

Yeah, cuz those are equivalent to McCann catching Burnes a few extra times.

The point is that the O’s clearly value clubhouse chemistry and are going to avoid drama and distractions where possible. Chemistry matters; if you don’t believe me, look at teams like the White Sox.

Sure chemistry counts.  Drama completely made up by outside third parties doesn’t count at all.

Do you think it was a coincidence that McCann caught 5 straight Burnes starts?

Keep in mind:

-All 5 opposing pitchers were right handed

-This caused Rustchman to catch Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday against the Rays because Burnes pitched Monday.

I don’t know if it was a coincidence exactly.   But it’s got nothing to do with clubhouse chemistry.

No issue with Adley today. Nothing to see here officially.

I still think it was about the running game. Burnes probably wanted McCann as catcher because he’s better at throwing out runners and he (Burnes) doesn’t hold runners well. Hyde obviously wasn’t going to call Adley out in his presser so just said “coincidence”. Now he gives Adley a Burnes start to “prove” that it’s a coincidence.

I think if it was something innocuous Hyde would have just said the reason. When McCann was asked about it he was kind of evasive and said “I’m probably not the right one to ask.”
