Switch Means and Irvin and then I agree.   Elias and Hyde will respect Means veteran status IMO.

Irvin has far more ML  innings pitched and therefore far more veteran status than Means

That’s an interesting factoid. Some of us forget that Means has really only thrown two “regular” ML seasons.

Maybe he really was treating his rehab like Spring Training.

He’s going to be on this team. I guess he starts in the bullpen. His 30 day rehab stint is up on 4/30.  Do we get a day or two for him to be activated?

Ramirez DFA for Means on 4/30

Baumann DFA for Bradish on 5/2

Akin optioned for Cionel Perez on 5/5

Burnes, Grayson, Bradish, Kremer, Irvin

Kimbrel, Cano, Suarez, Tate, Webb, Coloumbe, Perez, Means

I trust Akin a lot more than Perez. He's had one good year with us and a decent part of another.

What has Akin had?  Zero good years.  I like Akin, but I prefer Perez.  Also, lets not discount the value of the 9th/10th bullpen pieces.  Right now those are Vespi and Baker, but we can't tap into those fresh arms because only Tate, Cano, and Akin, have options in our current bullpen.

Fire up the shuttle.

So I guess this is where I point out that Irvin has many more starts and innings in his career than Means does.

Means: 74 games, 69 starts, 380.1 IP.

Irvin: 110 games, 82 starts, 510.1 IP.

Means pitched one game at the end of 2018.  Irvin debuted in May 2019.

So, I don’t think veteranosity factors into this equation.

Aiken has had 0 good years? He was pretty darn good in 2022.

Did anybody see Means' outing, how did he look?

I live about 20-30 minutes from Harbor Park so I made my first trip of the year. I didn't even know Means was pitching until yesterday, I wanted to see Holliday and Mayo (who went deep). He looked like Means - fastball was probably 90-92, had the good changeup going, good breaking stuff. Very little hard contact, a lot of pop-ups, just a couple of deeper flies in the last inning or two. I think he's certainly ready.

BBQ down left field line is legit.

Good to hear.  We've weathered Means and Bradish being out.  Let's hope they can (knock on wood) stay healthy and help us win.

Valuable in a bullpen for sure. He's no Kevin Pillar in value comparison.

Akin is definitely valuable.  Last year he had the worst stat cast numbers in baseball.  I'd say he's just as valuable as Perez and Vespi. Vespi and Akin should be rotated up/down when we need a fresh lefty.

You said he's never had a good year. It's okay to wear that, you said zero, and that means none to me.
