Where can I find Kremer's FIPS per month?   I can find his ERA per month many places.   Even Fangraphs only gives FIPS for the year.   Unless I am not reading it right.

BBref game logs, you can click and highlight by month or whatever stretch of starts that you want.

Bah, the link doesn't seem to be working.

Go to splits, select by month and then go to advanced.

2024:

Mar/Apr:  5.25

May:  4.05

July:  1.16

FIPS does not work well for pitchers that pitch to contact.

It's kind of weird.   Managers want starters to in games.  Eating innings is encouraged. In order for a pitcher to do that he needs to pitch to contact to lower his number of pitches per inning.  But balls in play are not counted in FIP.

So when French talks in favor of FIP is he saying that he wants his pitchers to go for strike outs and not pitch to contact?  Make up your mind coach.   Either you want pitchers to in games or strike out more batters.

But then how many SP's have success with a low K9? FIP equally rewards low BB9 and HR's too.

I consider anything below 7 K9 to be low for a SP. Saurez is at 6.83 so he's straddling that line and is 117th out of SP's with 50 IP this year. Irvin is 6.25 which is 133rd. The list only goes to 147 Major League Leaderboards - 2024 - Pitching | FanGraphs Baseball

Well Kremer has 8.5 K/9 the past two years. Oddly his worst K/9 year was his best overall year in 2022.

His FB has just gotten hammered this year (it does have a solid whiff rate though). The other pitches in his repertoire have been pretty effective this year. He should certainly be throwing the splitter more.

He could get his FB up to 97 in the past when he needed it. Can’t get there now.  Seems to be a problem.

Kremer’s velo was down the whole start, particularly the first inning. I’m more concerned about that than the poor results, given it’s only his second start back after a pretty long IL stint.

A bit unfortunate that Kremer is lined up for the last game before the ASB on regular rest - seems like he could benefit from some extra days. That last start against NYY is a big one, hopefully it goes better and then he gets the ASB extra rest.

It certainly wasn't an acceptable performance by Kremer and others. Gunnar has to learn to eat the ball when he has no play. Urias?? The O's gave the Cubs excellent opportunities and it cost the O's runs. Extra pitches can lead to extra runs. I thought AR did a pretty poor job framing borderline low pitches. It was probably Kremer's inconsistency more than AR. Seemed like Kremer was having a problem with the heat too.

A lot of weak contact and lucky hits BUT the two home runs.  The defense made some nice plays but those two bad ones plus I put Kremer partially responsible for the Gunnar throw.   You know where your defense is.   That’s an easy out if you don’t reach for it and tip it.

Kremer didn’t finish hitters off but he was also pretty unlucky.

    • Clearly the O's wanted to move Hayes for more than baseball reasons, so that is a success The two players they got are not very good Hays will easily post more WAR in his two months with Philly than the scrubs we got in return Real good trade for Philly
    • Honestly… Elias’ lack of direction and prospect hoarding has created a lot of this imo. But, Gunnar’s defense, Kjerstad in LF, injuries, poor bullpen construction, hitting philosophy are all serious problems.
    • I don't know why Suarez and McDermott are not in the pen RIGHT NOW. I know I might get flack for this too, but I still think Bryan Baker can be salvaged. He's got high K stuff, just needs to be used correctly. Even if all 3 of these guys can be pieces, I still think we could use 2 more bullpen pieces, especially a lefty
    • I’ve been saying for over a year why not trade form the depth to clear space for the young players we’re so high on.    if there is resentment brewing it’s entirely on Elias for his conservative approach and refusal to clear the logjam that’s existed for 2x seasons now. players like Stowers and Norby have to wonder how much major league time they could have already accrued if they were in a different organization .
    • Don’t know why we needed another thread …here is some additional info    https://forum.orioleshangout.com/topic/54047-clubhouse-issues/
    • The team just drafted several CFers. Ethel may have beaten them all out but chances are he didn’t have a long term place here.  Same thing with Horvath. Just no spot. Baumeister is the one who hurts and who the hell knows if he ever develops.
    • I agree, didn’t know if this was a season thread or a trade thread. 😀 If we are done, I think it means the expectations are lowered for this year because, as evidenced by the last few weeks, this team has a lot of issues.  If World Series is the goal the bullpen needs a lot more help and we need at least one more starter. And Hyde needs to figure out how to get the offense going again. And the defense needs to be better. Lots of problems right now.
