Means stunk in his rehab outing too. Came back and pitched effectively before getting hurt again. The purpose of rehab is to throw all your pitches, making sure there’s no pain, and getting a feel for being back in a competitive game.

I think when you reach about 20 pitches in the first inning, you might also try to see if you can get someone out.

Do you think a 39 pitch 5-run first inning got him the feel of competition again?   Plus, throwing 39 pitches is a good way to aggravate your injury or start a new one.

We didn't bring Means back until he had a good rehab start.  Let Kremer work the rust off in Norfolk.

One of the goals of the rehab assignment is to build the pitcher back up.  Getting yanked after 39 pitches is a far cry from 80 pitches you would like to see before inserting him back in the rotation.
