Not sure but he has a 124 wRC+ against RHP’s and 76 wRC+ against LHP’s (with a 39.6 K%). He should be playing every game against RHP’s (like tonight) and be shielded somewhat against LHP’s like Gunnar last year, the problem is Mullins has a 14 wRC+ against LHP’s.

I couldn't think of a better time for Cowser to take his lumps against LHPs if Mullins is at a 14 wRC+

It was nice to see Cowser get into one.  I’ve been wanting to see more balls in the air on the pull side.  That certainly qualified.   Hopefully he’s ready to go on a heater.

As improved as he been in the field he still has to prove he can hit the cut otherwise he will continue to be run on as we saw against Toronto.  Beyond cuts, I believe his last two throws to the plate were so poor they were 30 feet up each line.  If he is to be a legit fill-in CF or there for an extended period his arm accuracy has to improve.  I really like Cowser's athleticism in LF at Camden Yards but right now his arm makes me cringe.

He’s had a rough stretch and managed to keep his OPS above 750. I consider this a tremendous rookie season. Check out what the two ROY favorites Langford and Carter are doing.

I don’t care what they’re doing, I don’t consider Cowser’s season tremendous at this stage.   He’s been up and down.  95 games to go and he could still make a good ROY run.  Seems like most of the best rookie performances have been in the NL.  If the awards were given today, Luis Gil (8-1, 2.04 ERA) almost certainly would win in the AL.

So many games left to be played. Gil has the lead at the 2/5 pole.

Gunnar was not good in April/May last year and look how that turned out.

Gunnar had an .814 OPS at the 67 game mark.  He finished at .814 OPS.  So, he’d reached his leveling point by now.  I don’t think Cowser has.  He’s just emerging from a long cold snap, but has shown signs of breaking out of it the last 4-5 games.  He’s at .760 now and honestly it would be fine if that’s where he ended up, but he’s been trending down for about 40 games so he needs to get things going the other direction.

Ebbs and flows over 162. Our fan base needs to act live we’ve been here before. Heck, maybe some haven’t because of the predicted collapse every month of last year outside of September.

I agree that his bat has been up and down but it would be hard to classify his season to date as anything other than tremendous.

His defense has been so good that’s he’s been worth 2.1 WAR in 216 PA’s. Last year, Gunnar was worth 4.7 WAR in 622 PA’s. Pro rate Cowser’s season so far to 622 PA’s and that comes out to 6 WAR. That’s not saying he will keep up this pace the whole year, but if he hits close to league average and keeps up his defense, he will likely be a 4 WAR player. I don’t think anyone expected that coming into the season.
