Hyde used 5 relievers two days in a row.     Cano, Webb and Perez were used in back to back days.  So Hyde probably will not use them today.    That leaves Coulombe, Akin, Tate, Kimbrel and Vieira.   But Hyde does not like to use Kimbrel or Tate in back to back games.  I am not saying he won't.   Just that he does not want to.

Vieira is a mop up guy and I would not be surprised to see him DFA'd in the near future to make room for someone who can throw strikes.

So it's Irvin for 7 innings,  Akin in the 8th and Coulombe in the 9th.  All lefties.   Of course that is not the way it will happen.

I don’t get the bit about not liking to use Tate and Kimbrel on back to back days.  Tate pitched yesterday but Kimbrel didn’t.  If it’s a save situation in the 9th you’ll see Kimbrel.

Got it.  You are right.

The Os can’t have a zero in the pen right now.

You either trust Veiria or he needs to go.

I imagine they are hoping we find another really low leverage opportunity to give him another chance. I would say the same though, that if we need a third reliever today and have to go back to Tate or akin rather than using vieira, he may be looking at a dfa for vespi, heasley or krook. they did just trade for him, so they might want to give him more slack, but our only other option is sending akin or tate down.

Vespi  and Heasley have been optioned for 15 days unless there is an injury.

They have to DFA Vieria today right? You can't carry this guy in a 30 game stretch that has started off with two short starts.

I have a feeling they will give him one last chance today unless Irvin has a long start. If he craps the bed today, he's gone.

They're often pretty cautious of Irvin facing the third time through the order. He has a lot of games pulled after 5-6 good innings on pretty low pitch counts. Today is definitely a day to buck that trend.

Yeah still haven't forgotten that absolutely nonsensical yank by Hyde in Cincinatti. He can't be pulling any of that BS today.

    • I'd like to point out that Mayo has made one error since May 11th at 3B and has 2 errors in his 25 games at 3B.
    • I have no confidence in Cano in these situations.
    • I don’t know how much it is from not trusting Kimbrel, or him only being comfortable coming in a clean inning because he’s been doing it his whole career, or just not wanting to push him too much regular season. But a big factor just from an effectiveness point of view is that Kimbrel is prone to throw a ton of pitches. Feels a lot less reliable that he can get 4 outs before running out of gas and his effectiveness falling off. Kimbrel’s age and earlier season minor injury woes, and apparent large benefit from more rest are also distinguishing factors. Bautista also throws a lot of pitches of course, but he’s so unhittable it hardly seems to matter.  But he also blew out his arm while carrying a very high workload and a lot of multi-inning regular season appearances, so it could also simply be that the Orioles are recalibrating toward not wanting to risk their best RP that way in the regular season, especially with all the other considerations.
    • This is the lineup I want to see more times than not. I still think Mullins should play 4-5 times a week though so a rotation of Mullins, Santander, Cowser, and Kjerstad would give everyone enough playing time and keep them fresh.  Although I think Mayo would move up in the order very quickly.
    • Yes possibly, 3 months ago he had ROY potential, hows that look now. I'm a big a homer as anybody but pump the brakes a little.
    • I'd pack their bags for them if that was available.
    • I rarely go wow, but WOW!  That's a pretty hard no way. I've made myself known that I'm not trading Mayo and I'm certainly not trading him for a reliever and I'm certainly not adding in Kjerstad. The real question is would we trade Kjerstad for Miller straight up. That would be an interesting thought. Miller could absolutely blow out his arm at any point and Kjerstad is going to be in a middle of a major league lineup for a long time.  I'd have to think about that one long and hard especially knowing we will have Bautista back next year and McDermott could be an impact reliever if given a chance too.
