And btw, the Os literally just did this in the 2024 draft. Drafted a bunch of under slot guys and went over slot on several guys.  Every year, every team.  You can always find money in the draft if you need to.

OK, then find me the ~1.3M in 2021 that lets you take Lawler instead of Cowser.

Oh, so you are going to hindsight away Willems, that gets you 800K ish.

So you only need to find another 500K.

BTW, not taking Willems is a cost.

What are you talking about?  Find it yourself. It takes no time. You draft cheaper guys and not sign guys to slot or over slot.  This isn’t tough. Again, every team does it. You are just being a troll because you know this happens all the time.

And there is a cost to doing that.

You are getting lesser prospects at some of the draft positions.

It's not free.

So? That evens out because you end up with someone(s) better as a result in other areas.

Maybe Willems ends up being a ML regular, him + Cowser would probably outproduce Lawler.

 

I would have preferred Lawler as well but 1.8M (+) in additional cost is a thing that can't be waved away as inconsequential.

And real choices have to be made for it to happen, it isn't "easy".  Sometimes it doesn't work out.  Look at the O's 2008 draft.

I never said it will definitely work out.  I said manipulating the money to work the way you want it to work is easy…and it is.

I've never run a marathon but it seems easy.

Actually you have to train for a very long time to build up your body to be able to do it.  You have to run hundreds of miles to be able to complete 26.2.  It puts a ton of strain on your entire body and can cause back, knee and feet issues.

But way to go on picking out a terrible analogy.

For the record I knew a guy in the Army that ran a marathon out of the blue.  He did end up with bleeding nipples but he did it.
