Angelos would of had to approve this pick in the first place wouldnt he? So its not like he hasnt approved alot of money be spent. So Boras knows that Angelos will play him but MacPhail says no. So basically the O's have nothing

I hope he has a horrible year next year and drops down in the draft. And gets nothing close to what the O's were offering and fires Boras.

Why would he want to go back to college and have to deal with class and finals. I mean come on. No college kid likes that

This is maddness. If we're as close as 2 million, just pay it, get his physical done and send in the papers.

TWO MILLION DOLLARS IS PEANUTS. FREAKIN' PEANUTS.

We wasted half that on PAUL FREAKIN BAKO.

If we're within 2 million the negotiations should be over. No reason to risk this going down to the wire over 2 million dollars.

The system is just ridiculous, and completely unfair to the lower and mid market teams. Each pick should have a designated contract, which will increase a small percentage every year. Its not fair that good players will drop in the draft to the better teams because those are the teams that have money to sign them. Certainly doesn't help create parity.

As long as the Yankees are good, no one (other than us rational folks) will acknowledge how flawed the system is (draft, salaries, etc).

They need to stop agents like Boras from getting involved in the draft process. For established pros, ok, fine. But to advise a kid out of college to turn down 6-8 million dolars a year and start making major money in his professional career, and risk injury and/or decline for the possibility of making a little more so the agent gets a bigger cut, is really irresponsible. If I was Weiters, I would not turn down a deal if it was at least fair. What does he care if another pick makes a little more? He'll be up there without delaying another year. I mean in 2 years at 7 million he makes more then just 1 next year at 10 million. And he's closer to free agency. Just bad advice. In the end, its Weiters choice, and I hope he's just allowing Boras to posture for him but within the next couple hours comes to his senses and takes the deal.

I'm hearing the same as Belkast. This is all McPhail. I'm told a majority of people have no idea what he's doing and are not being told anything.

Amazing!

Gee...at this point, with this reaction to little news...I wonder why he's keeping a closed lid on proceedings.

If there is $6-$7 million on the table and Boras walks he will certainly be done doing business in this town!

Your right! Put me on ignore!!!!!

Oh, don't be so dramatic. My point all along is that "information" is suspect. It's not whether you're legit, or your source is legit. It's that private negotiations are impossible to read, even if we think we have well-placed sources. Partly because said information is incomplete. Partly because it's invariably biased.

Post One: "Thought you should know that Wieters is going back to college."

Response: Really? This is definite?

Post Two: Yes, unless Boras comes down...

That's not "definite".

The thing is, Boras coming down is a serious possibility. But we're not privy to his thinking right now, so we assume he's absolute in his stance. But we can't know. And if Boras comes down another million, we have no idea what happens. Perhaps the extra million can be re-structured to the advantage of both sides.

Further, there's no way that anyone is quitting important negotiations like this at 9:00 pm. So, saying that - no matter how pessimistic things are - it's all over simply can't be true.

That's another thing...how the hell is he getting away with that? He's obviously acting as his agent, not as an "advisor."
