How much is Nate McClouth going to cost?

I see DD trying to make a MAJOR upgrade somewhere in the lineup. The most obvious places are LF and 1B, maybe DH. I don't know what he's going to do, but let's not forget he signed Manny Ramirez in Boston. He's not afraid to make a big move. Does that mean he's going to go after Josh Hamilton to play LF? I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, McClouth does alot for this team. Yes, I really like him. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him elsewhere.

I mean let's say you take the supposed 4-5 mill it's going to take to keep McClouth and the 11 million it's going to take to keep Reynolds, that's 15 mill. right there; take that plus 5 mill. and make a run at Hamilton, 5 years, 20 mill per and then you move Davis to 1B fulltime. I don't know if that makes us better, I think it does.

I'm just saying, I don't see DD coming back with the same team. I think he'll look for upgrades.

DD had different ownership in Boston. Peter Angelos will spend on young players that have proven themselves as Orioles like Markakis, Jones and Wieters but may not be willing to spend big on a long term contract for a FA.

We saw how much some extra bats COULD have helped us in the post season. jones needs some days off. Nate can be a CF on occasion. Reimold can spell Davis and Reynolds too. Reimold's speed will help, too. Both guys will take a walk, too, which is a skill we need to develop.

It's almost like an Aubrey Huff situation with the Giants

Aubrey hadn't fallen nearly as low as Nate at the time when they first got him and re-uped him.

I think we might end up having to go two guaranteed years to keep him here. I hope it ends up being close to Frobby's idea but I bet there are other teams with serious interest. We shall see.

Nick/McLouth as our 1-2 hitters (in either order, really) would be pretty nice going forward.

I don't give up on Reimold, but I give the starting spot to McLouth. Reimold, if he can stay healthy, can be a 4th outfielder, spell McLouth once in awhile, take some at bats in place of Chris Davis at DH, and so on. If he hits well, I'm sure we can find him more time, too.

What do you think we do with Reynolds, though? If he's gone, Davis might be the one playing 1B.

Tough problem but It is a good problem to have. Much of it hinges on Reimold. I believe he was going to have a breakout year before he got hurt and key is whether he can get completely healthy. I like Reynolds d tremendously but i would have to be pretty convinced he will return to 2011 power numbers to even consider picking up the 11 mil option.

Nick can be the #2 hitter. It would be nice to have a little speed on the team and the O's and McLouth are a perfect fit for one another. We'll have to see what kind of market there is out there for him.

Exactly. McLouth has more speed than Nick and I think is suited to hit lead-off moreso than batting third. Hopefully this would also give us the opportunity to bat Hardy lower in the order.

I think that if McLouth isn't too terribly exensive, the O's will absolutely be very interested in bringing him back. Reimold can't stay healthy. Hoes has one major league at bat. Avery got a couple chances and didn't grab it. Davis is not an everyday starting outfielder next year.

I am worried that he is going to want too much for the O's though, I really am. I think that there are a lot of teams out there that are going to see him as an everyday starting LF or even CF for them next year, and pay him for that.

I live in Harriburg, PA and vacation in OC every summer. Let's say I loaded my family up in our van in 2011 and the van ended up breaking down halfway to OC and left us stranded. The following summer I decide to give the van another shot. We load up the van and head to OC. The van breaks down 3 miles out of town and leaves us sitting. Do you really think I would then count on that van getting us to OC the following summer? The point is, don't count on Reimold for ANYTHING.

    • Yea.  I feel the same way.  I really do not care strongly one way or another.  Sure, I think it's kind of ugly.  I also think HR's came pretty cheap before.  I like the exciting defensive plays it fosters and of course the random triple & odd carom make for some fun and unique moments.  But I don't think it helps or hurts the team in any substantial way short of helping out the pitching a little.   I sure don't think the players are changing their approaches.  If they keep it as is, that's fine with me.  If they modify it some way, that's fine with me as well.  It does seem like there is some opportunity for some unique seats down there by modifying it slightly.  When I first saw it, it almost appeared like a construction Phase 1.  That might be reasoning for pushing it back so far, allows them some flexibility in the future.   I also don't buy that a Free Agent RH hitter is going to care at all about the wall.   They are getting paid regardless.  I'd think that 1-maximizing payday 2-playing for a winner 3-finding a location that suits your family would be your priorities and your long-term stat line would be very close to the bottom of your list of concerns.
    • His "ability to play RF" carries about $0 value
    • Yeah but if you think most of this money is going to upgrade things that are wrong or need improving, such as the ones @accinfo lists, I think you'll be disappointed.   They will be for new features, each one designed to create revenue via premium seating or premium "experience" areas or attractions that bring non baseball fans to the park to spend or sports betting related things. I'm not saying they won't fix some basic things that need it like upgrading the sound system or improving the point of sale technology.   I'm sure they will.   But the focus is going to be on the new attractions which are all designed with revenue enhancement in mind.
    • I’m not a lawyer … perhaps @Frobbymight know. Loss of income, future revenues? Damage to their franchise….Even with MASN the Orioles lost a ton on annual tv revenues
    • Congrats to the offense on playing a heck of a game. Lamar was incredible to watch, especially the play when the snap ended up on the ground and he had to run away towards the sideline and still found Likely for the score. It's very frustrating to me that the offense HAD to play so well because of the poor coaching and abysmal defensive play.  It's odd to me that Harbaugh still messes up timeout usage after being a coach in the league for over 15 years.
    • Can someone in 150 words or less explain to me what DYAR is?
    • I have a 3 hour round trip to get to games. I can't speak about other directions, but the stadium is very easy to get to from the south...some more traffic with the earlier start times, but overall - games are VERY easy to get to, imo. You don't have the hike through the city to get to games. I'm a rural guy, and it's really not a big deal. We took the light rail from Cromwell for Game 1 (I usually park in BC or FGH) and it was a breeze. We walked out right after the game, and we immediately caught a direct bus that took us back to Cromwell directly. We did the same thing last year. I gotta be honest - I think the "they've been horrible for half the season" reasoning is pretty lame. Even when they were down (and dealing with significant injuries) after the AS break, they were still essentially a lock to make the playoffs. Then they get healthy-ish with some key guys back riiiiight before the playoffs and look great for a couple of series - but I guess it was too late for everyone?  Come on.  Just say you didn't feel like it. But don't blame August play for not showing up in October.
