After hitting a 3-Run Home Run with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd inning, Renato Nunez got a double high-5 and a hug from Trey Mancini, and a very vigorous high-5 from Austin Hays when he reached home plate ........ that was great to see from a 100-plus loss team that is just playing out the string to end the season.

Having had an evening to reflect on this past season, I dare say that this thread title could well serve as its overarching theme. The fight, hustle, professionalism, grit, and, yes, heart that our players showed from March 28th to yesterday was appreciated, and a welcome reversal of what we occasionally saw last season.

Time will tell whether some or any of these guys will be here for the turnaround, but I’ll always appreciate them for the respect they showed for the game and for each other in what was, admittedly, a pretty trying year.

One day after getting thrashed by the Red Sox on Opening Day, the Orioles rebounded with a 7-2 victory against the same team.

One day after getting their hearts ripped out by Aaron Judge and the Yankees, the Orioles came from behind TWICE to beat the perennially-contending D-Rays.

Sometimes, it's 1 or 2 individual stars highlighting a win ........ and sometimes, it's a team effort.

We went from the tough, scrappy team that nobody wanted to play because we could shorten the game with our bullpen to being some participation-ribbon-type team that actually plays scheduled shortened games.

Its just sad.

We won’t be seeing OFFNY bump the “Don’t Tell Me These O’s Ain't Got No Heart” thread for a long time.

If the Orioles win tonight's game, I will likely hit it ........ "Coming off of a 4-game sweep at the hands of the (presumably) lowly Marlins, the struggling Orioles somehow found a way to come right back and defeat the defending world champions in their very next game.

Every once in a while, things fall precisely into place.

(vs. NATIONALS, 8/08)

The Oriole offense looked dead-in-the-water for much of the game ........ then POW, POW, POW ........ 3 Home Runs in a single inning, 2 of them of the pinch-hit variety, and the previously-dormant Orioles suddenly had a 5-3 lead.

The bullpen held on over the final 2 innings for the victory.

In their regularly scheduled game against the Nationals yesterday, the Orioles were annihilated by a score of 15-3.

Today against that same team they were facing Patrick Corbin, who has been one of the most consistently reliable starting pitchers in the National League over the last 3-plus seasons ........ and they proceeded to score 5 runs off of him in 5 innings, en route to a 7-3 victory. Corbin needed to throw 94 pitches to complete those 5 innings that he threw.

The following was true ........ until last night's game.

Patrick Corbin (2-0, 2.50 ERA) makes his 4th start of the season for Washington. In 18 Innings Pitched for the season so far he has allowed 15 Hits, 3 Walks, 20 Strikeouts, and has accumulated a WHIP of 1.000.

In the first 3 innings of his 2020 games Corbin has not allowed a run, and opponents are 3-for-30 with 10 Strikeouts against him. In 3 career games against the Orioles, he is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA. In 16 innings Pitched against the Orioles, he has issued 1 Walk to 20 strikeouts.

The Orioles were absolutely reeling from a 6-game losing streak,

The offense was cold, the starters were getting knocked out of games early, and they were making fundamental mistakes in the field and on the base-paths.

It looked like they were headed to their 7th straight loss. Alex Cobb had pitched reasonably well for 5 innings, but the offense was once again cold ........ and then, Anthony Santander hit a clutch, 2-Out/2-Strike, game-tying Home Run to breathe some life into the boys. Cole Sulser ceded a run in the top of the 10th (with the new runner starts on 2nd base rule), and it looked like the Orioles might go down in defeat yet again ........ but some clutch hitting, coupled with a fundamental defensive mistake of their own by the Red Sox wound up spelling victory for the Birds.
