(vs. RED SOX, 9/26) )))))))) [Game Two]

After getting beaten, battered, humiliated, demolished (you pick your adjective) in Game One of today's doubleader, the Orioles sent Cy Young candidate Chris Sale to the showers before completing 5 innings en route to a 10-3 win.

The Red Sox played their "B" team for the position players, but I was still happy to see them come back from such a thorough pounding (19-3) to claim the nightcap.

(vs. D-RAYS, 4/18)

Playing one of the best teams in baseball in their home park in southwestern Florida, the Orioles lost the first 2 games of the series, then fell behind in the 3rd and final game in the first inning ........ they battled back to take a 5-4 lead into the 9th inning, but Michael Givens coughed a game-tying home run to Avisail Garcia Yaguarin, and it looked bad for the Orioles and their fans ........ but John Alan Means pitched 2 scoreless inning in the 10th and the 11th (with a little bit of help from Boyce Cedric Mullins), Joey Rickard hit a clutch RBI-double to give the Orioles the lead, and the Birdies found themselves in the win column.

(vs. TIGERS, 5/27)

Immediately after the final out of the game was caught by Richie Martin, Dwight Smith Jr grabbed him desperately, as if the Orioles had just won a crucial game in late September ........ these guys care, no matter how bad the team's record is. I like that a lot.

They haven’t lost the “I give a D——— factor” which is important in this process of rebuilding/competing.  When you have a group of young players that didn’t have this opportunity in the past, they are going to go balls to the wall to show that they belong on a 25 man roster.  I get frustrated with the boneheaded mistakes like throwing to the wrong base or missing the cut off man, but they are making aggressive mistakes that will police themselves up with time. As long as they stay aggressive and learn from mistakes they will be fun to watch no matter the outcome.  Fighting thru the low times makes the winning times that much sweeter!

(vs. GIANTS, 5/23)

Andrew Cashner was clobbered for 5 runs in the very 1st inning ........ but the Orioles came right back, and scored 6 of their own in the bottom half.

Cashner (somehow) managed to get through 5 innings while only allowing 1 additional run to score, the bullpen put up all goose-eggs in the final 4 innings of the game, and the Orioles found themselves victorious by a score of 9-6.

Any thoughts on Bleier as possible closer? Not your typical fireballing closer but he doesn't walk a lot of hitters and has shown an inexplicable talent for pitching well throughout his career. He also doesn't seem too easily rattled and could do the 4-5-out saves that Hyde seems to prefer.

Smart move by Hyde to try and boost his trade value. Probably won't work but worth a shot in a lost season.

Through 8 innings this looked like the O's best win of the season,.  Then Michael Givens took the ball.  Any random waiver wire pitcher would be a better closer than Givens at this point.  Continuing to run Givens out there as closer after today would qualify as fan abuse.
