Yermin Mercedes

Triple Crown

Recommended Posts

Yermin Mercedes hit a 9th inning grand slam last night, but unfortunately, it was NOT a walkoff. He also had a double. That?s 5 multi-hit games in the last 6, in which he has raised his average 52 points to .281. On Wednesday, he hit a 456 foot (Trackman device measurement) HR.

He has slimmed down noticeably in his relatively short time here.

His throws to 2B are improved, but needs more work on his throws to 3B

Thanks for the report, Doc. Good call Triple Crown as well. Mercedes definitely on my prospect radar now. Hope he continues to rake.

Redemption tonight(July 20th) for Yermin. In the 4th inning he made an error that resulted in 2 runs for Greensboro - the games only runs going into the 9th. With two on base, Yermin blasted a triple to right center field making the score 2-2. He then scored the winning run on a walk off sacrifice fly. Yermin's magic continues...

Thanks Karl. I am repeating this good info in this longer post which I had written earlier and just am getting time to post it. I am repeating it because I want to make a appoint of his throws sailing.

On Monday (7/20) Mercedes tripled to right-center in the bottom of the ninth, driving in 2 runs to tie the game. He scored the winning run on a walk-off fly by Levya. Earlier, Mercedes was the goat because his throwing error to 1B SAILED over 1B Uxa’s head allowing two runs to score.

I have mentioned his throwing before. Mercedes throws three-quarter giving the ball a tendency to SAIL. Even when such balls are caught, the rise in flight consumes time which allows runners more time to slide under the throws. His throws to 2B are better (more direct), but his throws to 3B and 1B, when hurried, still tend to sail. Throws to 3B sail toward the SS rather than over the head of the 3B. As of end of game Monday, Mercedes is hitting .283. (.382 vs. LHP). He has now played in 31 games for the Shorebirds with a line of

He hit a HR on Sunday, but he was swinging from his heels because he had 6 family members/friends at the past 3 games. In his last 8 games (since the SAL All-Star break) before Monday, Mercedes had 5 HR, which I THINK is the most for any Orioles Minor leauger batters in that timeframe.

According to Doug Newton, Shorebirds broadcaster, Mercedes signed with the Orioles as a minor league free agent on Sep 8, 2014. He had played with the Nationals organization (DSL Nats) from 2011-2013. In 2014, he played in Independent Leagues at San Angelo, Douglas and White Sands. He hit .411 with 15 HR and 12 2B in 36 games for the White Fish Pupfish in the Pecos League. He hit over .300 for both the San Angelo Colts (United League) and Douglas Diablos (Pecos League).

When Mercedes blasted his three-bagger - an awestruck fanbase shouted in unison - "Yer Mean"! And mean he has been! :clap3:

    • You have basically answered your own question. If Grayson didn’t agree he could file a grievance. He didn’t so one might assume, regardless of how serious, he agrees with the course of action.
    • We’ve gone to 2 Monday games and one Tuesday game. Ive gotten tickets for $37 apiece after fees in section 52 and then Move up a few rows to all the empty seats. Amazing seats to watch a game. This last Monday I paid $65 apiece for section 52 vs the yanks. People from NY paid $100 off SeatGeek. He said that these seats in NY would be $500 apiece. Ticket prices are pretty cheap for Os games right now. And on a Monday you could buy a cheaper seat and then move closer if you really wanted to.  Now food prices are a different story. Just buy a hoagie somewhere and bring it in.  Looking at the Toronto Monday, sec 52 is way cheaper than it was for the Yankees. Sec 59 is $19 on SeatGeek including fees. you can make it affordable but I don’t pay for parking in Timonium and I have passes for the light rail.
    • Whose better than Cowser on defense?  How does Norby look out there?
    • what about just waiting for Bautista to come back and use those type of players to get a good starter with some control?
    • I think those stats are from before his last two appearances.  He gave up a home run today to Gleyber Torres.
    • I was happy with what I saw. I honestly went into it not expecting much. He had a few rough spots but didn't totally crumble. Really encouraging!
    • The A’s will have no use for Stowers as a serious trade chip. Maybe he’s a throw in along with the major pieces? But he in no way is equivalent of Kjerstad or Cowser.  Furthermore if you have questions/concerns about Cowser, you don’t think they will? You don’t think that they are aware of his issues and that their evaluators/scouts can watch film of him butchering plays? Kjerstad is 25 now (already in his prime). Why would the A’s trade Miller for him? Miller has 5 more years of control. Their whole rationale for wanting to move Miller is to sacrifice the now for the later (buying years in the future and sacrificing the present). They are likely to want guys who are you and/or guys further away from MLB but still have tremendous upside. Povich/McDermott/Johnson? I guess they can be used as add ons. But I can’t see those kind of guys being main pieces for an EXTREMELY VALUABLE commodity like Miller. Miller has the ability to be the best late inning weapon in the sport and he has FIVE more years of control after this season. That kind of player is not going to be acquired for spare parts. We are going to have to beat other offers for him.
