Just turned down 6 free tickets 13 rows behind home plate for Father's Day.

If you still have access to those tix, I'd offer you something for them. I have four boys who I'd love to convince the Os are still worth watching. DM me to let me know please.

Today was the first time in over two decades where I had to ask myself “Did the Orioles have a game today?” And it took me till 2:20am for it to even come to mind.  The thought of them playing and me not being aware or at least checking the score is a big change for me. Shocking, actually. I played a gig but that’s fairly common for a Friday.

I know we all care or we wouldn't be posting here. We care, but we're frustrated, at least I am. This team as it's set up can't compete in the AL East. This is the toughest division in baseball. The best of the best. We need the best front office, the best manager, best scouts, best coaches, best players and the best long term plan to compete. The problem is we have none of that. Not even close.

What we do have is a dysfunctional, inept front office. Mediocre players for the most part. A manager who seems to be a bit burnt out, in denial or both. And we certainly don't seem to have a coherent plan for a rebuild.

Yes, I care. But I will care a lot more when it looks like we have a clue as far as righting this sinking ship.

Not really.  I was sufin' da web and came across an article of KKKK Davis on Drudge Report saying he's on the way to having the WORST season ever for a full time player and wanted to see if others had anything to say.  He is making Dave Kingman look like a Hall of Famer.

Look on the bright side.  On this date, June 16th, 1953 the St. Louis Browns beat the NY Yankees 3-1 to break, the Yanks 18 game winning streak and end their own 14 game losing streak.   All things are possible.  Maybe.

Would this team even be a winning team in AAA?

The Tides have a winning record so I assume so but the Tides don't have Chris Davis, Mike Trumbo and Pedro Alvarez on their roster so it might be close.

    • Is there anything you enjoy more than researching these things?   🙂
    • What’s the closest example you can think of a 29 year old player with a .634 career OPS who suddenly had a good year at the plate?  I’m sure it’s happened, but if so, it hasn’t happened often.  Of the ten players with the highest BB-ref similarity scores to Mateo through age 28, 7 of the 10 were out of the league at age 30 or sooner.  The other three were: Don Zimmer - had a .652 OPS through age 28 but played another six seasons and managed a .720 OPS in his age 32 season.   John Russell - had a .663 OPS through age 28 but played another four seasons.    Had a .682 OPS at 29.  Subsequent seasons had minimal at bats. Ryan Goins - had a .595 OPS through age 28, played four more years topping out at .681. Based on this, I’d say there’s maybe a 20% chance of Mateo landing between .700 - .720 this year.  That would be awesome.
    • THIS. I said it last night in the game thread. This stupid six man rotation and moving starters around like chess pieces messes w/ their routines. You have to get Burnes on turn every 5 days to maximize him and then everyone else is like roulette. After last night, Kremer should just be moved to the pen and go back to a 5 man rotation.
    • Kremer denied both the blister and the extra rest as reasons, as any pitcher normally would. I tend to think both absolutely were a factor regardless of what he said. Would have been a convenient way to keep Irvin in the rotation and get Dean some extra time to get comfortable after getting the blister removed. It's extremely painful to deal with a popped blister and it takes a long time to form a new callous, etc.  Just my opinion, no huge deal either way.
    • I still read it as “we predicted this before the season but now we’re predicting this”.
    • Yep, the league has already started to pitch Gunnar more carefully (on all ABs not just leadoff) and we are seeing his walk totals go up over last two weeks. In terms of seeing 1 pitch to hit an AB, Gunnar was definitely sitting on 2 strike sweeper from Gray last night that he deposited in CF bleachers.  You just don’t go oppo taco on outside edge breaking ball on one of the best spinners in the league.  Love how Gunnar is hunting certain pitches now.  Thought the same thing given the swings he put on Kirby’s split for HR (Sunday).
    • If the Orioles really thought Cook was a potential MLB option, I don’t think they would have sent him back to AA when they didn’t have roster space at AAA early in the season. He’s having a very good year though so he could potentially change their view of him.  The other obstacle is he may not get a 40-man spot this off-season despite being rule 5 eligible the first time, there’s a lot of potential additions.  If Norby isn’t traded, he’ll get one of them and Cook’s only advantages over Norby are speed and CF defense, which may not be enough (especially if Mateo is still around). And shortly behind them is Fabian, who is Rule 5 eligible after 2025 and offers those things better than Cook (albeit still with big question marks about his K rate).  I could see Cook threading the needle and get some cup of coffee opportunity between Norby and Fabian if the need arises, but the Orioles have stacked so much bench depth for next couple years there would probably need to be a significant shakeup with trades and/or injuries.
