I hope that this is the worst that we see of John Means this season ........ and if it is, I would be thrilled.

Being both realistic and optimistic, I would love for him to have 2 good starts and 1 mediocre start every 3 outings for the rest of the season.

Completing 5 innings is an accomplishment on a bad day (which this was for Means), it's not an accomplishment overall and/or something that I would be satisfied with on a regular basis.

Sometimes with the O's starters I don't know whether it's a better idea to make them go 6 innings even at the cost of one or two more runs, just to avoid using the 'pen.

Means had an off night (his change up was not very good last night) and still managed to get through five innings. Honestly, that's not too bad for a rookie pitcher trying to figure his way out there without his best stuff.

Looking at it from another perspective, it was his best outing of the season.

71% of the outs that he recorded (15 out of 21) came via the Groundout and the Strikeout.

Nice to see another starter go 7 quality innings.  Having to rely on the bullpen to go 4+ innings nearly every night is not good to say the least.

Mancini and Means are the early bright spots on this team. Hopefully we are seeing two of the pieces of a future contending Oriole team.

I think the kid is the definition of the crafty lefty. Looks like he believes in that CH and the FB plays well off it. Like to see him improve the slurve and make it a true slider with a little more bite and depth.
