Players not exactly social distancing in the dugout

I was a little surprised to see most of the players just acting as though there’s nothing happening.    Obviously they are in close quarters, but really I only saw a couple of the coaches wearing masks and players with their arms on the railing right next to each other just talking away.    Among the 30 teams, I think we are going to see some situations where 6-10 guys on a team all test positive at the same time.    That will be interesting.

Yes, I noticed that too.  I can understand in the field of play wearing a mask could intefere with their performance.  But not much excuse in the dugout

I certainly understand there’s a pandemic going on, but are we going to run from it forever? How can you keep a 6 feet distance in a dugout?

That's why they've installed those tents to create dugout annexes in the first few rows of the stands.

Marlins had 3 or 4 positives today, according to rumors.

Yeah, I imagine every team will be getting reminders about it. I understand the high fives and stuff, but space in the dugout with the auxiliary dugout should be maintained. They can't have 5-10 players on a team testing positive at the same time.

Any word on how often these guys are getting tested? I assume they aren't going to CVS and waiting 6-10 days.

Every other day.  Not sure if you get tested more often if you test positive.

Yeah, social distancing is very difficult to do outside of those social circumstances where it was already built in....like working in an office situation. I suspect we are going to see more outbreaks. The playoffs could get interesting. Who wins might be the team that can field the most non-taxi squad players the longest.

No we are going to take preventitive measures until there is a vaccine, and there are no fans, so every stadium has several thousand seats worth of social distancing space.

According to our youth baseball guidelines, players are supposed to sit six feet apart and wear masks when they are not on the field of play, coaches wear masks at all times. Seems like you would want to be at least as cautious with professional ballplayers.

it comes down to whether the players and coaches are serious about wanting to complete this season.   I think this experiment can work, but only if players and coaches remember and follow the social distancing guidelines.  Acting like everything is normal is how outbreaks occur.

I've surfed a ton of games on mlb.tv the last two days, and the lack of strict social distancing, masks, etc. is pretty much universal - and  I don't think anyone should be very surprised.  It's just unconscious reverting back to normal behavior and by the time the players re-train themselves to the new normal, whatever is going to happen will already have been decided.

Yeah a bunch of teams are going to lose several players at a time.  Interesting indeed to see how MLB spins that one.  Will this season end in a pennant race or a forced march to the convalescent home?  Or worse if the baseball gods turn particularly sour.
