Just in the last couple days BP has had fairly in-depth reports on each of these guys and they say Hader could be a back-end starter if things go right, while Harvey is one of the best pitching prospects in the game.

They do see Hader differently. I think for good reason.

No reason except that I noticed the Harvey thread after this one and thought it was a more appropriate content for that thread.

Remarkable how similar their stats are this year, 1/3 of an inning difference, exactly the same number of walks and strikeouts... Harvey 8 months younger... Hader one level more advanced.

The 8 months makes a fair bit of difference from a baseball perspective. Hader was drafted a year ahead of Harvey, so it is unsurprising that he is one level ahead of him.

While I don't want to sell Hader short, it's notable that even though he is a year further advanced, the Astros are limiting his outings more than the Orioles are limiting Harvey. Hader has only thrown six innings once; Harvey has pitched six innings three times and seven innings once. I think that's more of a comment on how the Astros are developing their pitchers, rather than Hader's abilities. But, it goes without saying that it's easier to dominate in a short outings than a long one.

Again, I don't want to take anything away from Hader. The Astros have to be thrilled with how he's doing.

Anyone who think Jake Arrieta has turned things around needs to look at his rapidly rising WHIP of 1.875.

Five walks in four innings last start. Still has not gone more than five and a third innings. Last two were four or less.
